Hate handing out candy... Am I alone?

...and no, it's not just because I want it all to myself! Stick out tongue

I seriously hate having random trick or treaters come to my house. The kids of friends and family are welcome, but other than that I leave my porch light off.

I have no reasoning behind this, I just hate it. I'm also not a giant fan of Halloween in general. I hate dressing up in costume unless I'm in a production. Had my Mamaw not bought Aria this costume, we wouldn't be participating this tear. I feel like I might be the only one who feels this way. Am I just a fuddy dud?

  • We don't hand out candy. Our area is a little bit shady though. When Munchkin is old enough to trick or treat we'll start embracing the Halloween spirit more.

  • Well ... if Halloween is not your thing, then you shouldn't be expected to enjoy handing out candy, right?  I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Smile

I, personally, like to hand out candy to the little kids ... the younger, the better!  Usually, their parents try harder to dress them up and they just look so darn cute! I like seeing the shy kids who are afraid to come up to get candy, and the bold ones that try to start a conversation with you.  They're always so excited!

I, however, hate handing out candy to the 'kids' that are too old to be trick-or-treating (teenagers) AND don't put any effort into their costumes.  For example, I see many just wearing a dark hoodie and calling themselves a "hoodlum".  Um, no.  I save my old (last year's) candy for this special bunch. Wink

ETA: I enjoy dressing up more now that I'm a teacher.  The kids really do get a kick out of seeing their teacher in costume!

  • I love it! I love seeing the kids in their costumes.  What I don't like are older kids coming around and kids who put no effort in - no costume, not saying trick or treat... Come on, kid!  Earn your candy!!

That said - we aren't participating this year. DH gets home from work too late, and I wasn't going to be able to take care of Natty, feed her dinner and hand out candy at the same time.  Add to that the fact that Sandy will probably cancel it altogether.

I still ordered Natty a costume, despite the fact that no one will see her except for me and DH.

  • I'd rather hand out candy than walk the kids around.

  • I'm not a fan of Halloween.  Growing up, we TorTed a few times with my cousins who lived in neighborhoods but not often.  As an adult, I don't get too excited for it other than that candy goes on sale and I can stock up on snacksize portions for cheap.

We used to either go out to dinner or hide in the house with the lights off on Halloween.  We lived in somewhat of a neighborhood (an old town's Main St) towards the end of the street.  We never really got a lot down at our end because the houses weren't as close together as they are at the other end.  We moved over the summer.  We should not have any TorTers at the new house.  In fact, if anyone knocks on our door, I'm not answering because I don't what to know who's on the other side.

  • I am happy to say my parents are over to hand it out at my place this year while we take Gabriel around the block.

I love the kids who dress up and am happy to give. If I get old kids I mean 18 and they have a sweet costume they get just as much as the little kids. But kids who show up in a hoodie must sing something for me or I send them away with no treat. If you aren't wearing a costume you best be surprising me with a trick for candy.

  • I love it! I always look forward to it so I'm kind of sad we won't be home this year to do it.
