Embarrassing question - sex talk

Bottom line - is it ok to have sex at 27 weeks pregnant if my doctor hasn't mentioned not to? I hate to say "i want to" but let's be real - sex is an important part of marriage, and even though i feel like a fatty tub, i still have needs! unless a doc has mentioned that we shouldn't, is it ok? or does anyone have any info saying otherwise? thanks so much....

  • I think its ok as long as you haven't been put on pelvic rest.  Just no crazy reverse upsidedown wheelbarrow action ;)

We were put on pelvic rest at 16w due to a low lying placenta.  At 21w we were taken off and given the green light (MH couldn't hide his grin when the doc told us that), and were just told to take it easy.

  • My mfm recommended using condoms after 20 weeks as some doctors think that semen can soften an already soft cervix. I went into ptl at 27wks until I delivered and we had only had sex maybe two times from 20 wks until 8wks pp.

  • I would think unless you were explicitly told not to, that you're good to go...

DH and I haven't been b/c my PSD pain that has been excruciating, I can't imagine how painful it would be to even try but DH said if I make it to 36 weeks that he's going to be more than happy to help induce labor Smile.

Even with the PSD, I haven't been told that I can't have sex so if I get to feeling up to it I doubt I'd think twice... it has been too long!

I agree. My dr never put restrictions on me so we were able to keep doing it till the end.

  • We stopped at around 22 weeks, but I was paranoid; it wasn't cuz anyone told me to do so. I agree with other posters that as long as you feel comfortable and the doc hasn't said anything about pelvic rest then you're prob fine. You might want to bring it up with the doctor at the next appt just in case.
