Re: Open Letter Thursday

  • Dear Top Ten Hospital we are fortunate to live by and the ENT,

We fulfilled our part of yesterday's bargain and got ourselves to the outpatient OR at 8 am for Nate's "Super Value Combo Meal" of procedures involving two specialists. Unfortunately, someone's poor time management forced us to wait 2 hours past our 10 am surgery time before we even got to the OR.

I am trying to not be too peeved in case there was some emergency case that took up the docket, but my gut is telling me that we still need to get a new ENT. We were also not amused that you wanted to keep Nate overnight for observation. We are glad that you agreed to give Nate a bit more time in recovery.

He slept awesome and is almost back to his old self BTW.

    Signed,

"Glad we got home by dinner"

i totally understand you!  why we were not #1 i feel has nothing to do with the doctors and their skill or what they do but the systems and management thereof-and customer service.

and they always want to keep kids like x overnight too!

  • this will be somewhat "political" so excuse me but i am beyond frustrated.

    Dear Society/Politicians/Government/Insert State Agency Here:

Last I checked this country was built off of the backs of hard working individuals. Funny how today, in 2012, those of us who hold down (and are lucky to do so) good jobs that provide for our family are penalized in many aspects of "the system". I did not expect my son to have special needs and if I had to choice, I would give anything for him to be able to talk, walk, attend the school down the street.  The fact of the matter is that he can't and he won't.  He is one of 47 children in the WORLD with his syndrome yet he can't get REM--"Rare and Expensive Medical".  Huh, rare you say?  All because you peons haven't heard about Schinzel-Giedion syndrome to put it on your handy dandy list.  Apply for social security you say?  Yeah, good one there.  I need to sell of everything I own and get a divorce for that to happen. Try for the Model Waiver?  Nice try, my child isn't "sick enough".  Oh and do you want to begin talking about school?  What parent, of a typical child or one with special needs has the time to take their child to pre-school for 2-hours-a-day?  2 hours? And now I have to see if you, Mr. School System, will find an alternative for my child-which I know you have to.

    Signed,

Pissed off mom who is only ending here because she lost her train of thought

  • Dear Chris's Teacher,

Thank you for making my week.  We've been struggling a lot lately with Chris - from crying fits to willfullness to lack of sleep, etc.  So when you emailed me today to respond to my "is he actually eating or is he being crazy picky about food?" question with an additional comment that he's doing much better now at school, you made my week.

  • Dear school system,

Why would you move the developmental/SN preschool to a portable? You do realize the thing is not ADA accessible right? I mean, my child's walker cannot fit through the door frame of the bathroom, nor is the bathroom handicap accessible. Really, you are just making things that much more of a PITA for the teacher and her aides. That isn't cool.

    No love,

Mother with a SN child will have to access that classroom

  • Dear Life,

Things are looking good so far.  I finally have a job I really love, dh is doing well. Ds is having a blast at preschool and is thriving.  I love our community, and we have great family and friends.

I couldn't ask for more. Big Smile

  • Dear Person at Corporate,

I am glad you can send off emails at 6:30 at night, but do not expect an immediate response from me. From 6pm on, is my time with my daughter, which includes: getting her from daycare, being disappointed that she drank an OUNCE all day, giving her a bolus feed at home, being puked, giving her a bath, reading her a story and snuggling, before putting her in bed, doing laundry, washing out medical supplies, unpacking groceries, and passing out on the couch until 2am before crawling into bed only to have my feet licked by the dog. When I get in at 9am the next day, I will read your email and respond accordingly. You see I am full-time employee and a full-time mom, unlike you who is a full-time employee and full-time douche bag

OMG - this reminds me of my own pet peeve when it came to a surgery.

We were seeing the best Pedi ENT in our area when my kids needed tubes.  So I book my YDS for a first morning surgery.  And it just so happened that on the day of his surgery, there was a snowstorm overnight.  I called the office AND the hospital and they assured me everything was on schedule.  GREAT.

So I got up at 5am, packed up my hungry hasn't eaten since before midnight 8 month old, and head out in the freezing cold and 8 inches of snow to drive to the hospital.  I gave myself extra time because of the weather and I didn't want to be late.  A drive that should have taken me about 25 mins took me close to an hour using 4wd the whole way.  But, we got there and checked in.

And we waited.  And waited. And waited.  And finally I asked WTF (nicely) and was told that the doctor was having trouble getting in because of the weather.  Did I meantion that this doctor lives in the SAME TOWN as I did?

So 2 hours later Dr. Great reputation but piss por planning shows up all apologetic and hurried.  Said he had to drive from a town 30 miles away and oh the roads were so bad.  I smiled, nodded, and said "Well doc, did you know I live in that town too? You should have called me! I would have picked you up on my way and we could have all gotten here on time".
