Help! My nipple is falling off!

Sorry for the shocking subject...hoping to get your attention and I guess it worked lol. LO is 9 months old. I had wanted to BF until at least a year.  My nipple is seriously about to fall off! It started with a small tear at the base of the nipple and every time he eats or I pump it opens back up and tears more. I'm at my whits end. I've tried creams, manual expression, changing positions and went back to basics with his latch. Nothing is helping. I literally have blood in the bottle when I pump. I'm open to any suggestions at this point. TIA!

  • can u pump and give that breast a break for 24-48 hrs? also get nipple shells not shields and wear that until it heals---GL!

  • Never heard of shells...will definitely try! Pumping does the same thing as nursing:(
  • I was hoping you'd get some more awesome suggestions - I have the same problem and I'm only a month in today. We've seen LCs from the beginning, who all say that we are doing everything perfectly. They've tested her latch, checked for a tongue tie, etc. And I still have severe injuries to both nipples. I've tried using lanolin, Bag Balm, organic coconut oil, and MediHoney. Nothing is helping. I, too, tried pumping from the worst side for a day or two, but that didn't help. Felt and acted the same as actually nursing her did. I hope someone comes up with something amazing!
