Most terrifying 15 seconds of my life

We went to the mall today for my niece's 5th birthday- lunch in the food court followed by the movie High School Musical 3.  Most of the kids were 4-5 years old.  Noah was sitting by my niece, who he adores, so I got up to throw our plates away.  The trash can was literally less than 10 steps away.  I turned around and Noah was gone.  No where in site.  I started screaming his name.  All the other moms probably thought I was insane.  I felt like I was in a bad movie.  The whole food court was spinning around me.  It felt like an eternity.  A few seconds later someone yelled, "he is under the table."  There he was, the whole time under the table.  I pulled him out and started bawling.  He gave me the biggest hug ever too.  He must have known how afraid I was.

Lesson learned.  I can not turn away from him for even 2 seconds.  I don't ever want to feel that kind f fear again.

  • I just got tears in my eyes b/c I could totally see that happening with my ds and I would freak the hell out.

    Glad he was fine.

  • That must have been awful.  Sorry you had to go through that.
  • I get that sick feeling in my gut just reading  your post.  Worst.Feeling.Ever.  I even feel like I'm an uber-vigilant mom when out & about (admittedly even a bit paranoid) and that has happened to me a couple of times.  It literally takes about 2 seconds to lose track of them sometimes.  So sorry you had to go through that...
  • this reminds me of a time we were in Macy's. I turned around and DS was nowhere to be found.I panicked and started looking everyhwere. It felt like forever. He was INSIDE of a clothing rack. He was being quiet I guess hiding in the middle of the clothes. After that I learned to not turn away from him for a second.
