International Bumpies

good morning! Anyone CD'ing in Germany?

Morgen! It's nice to think that someone may actually read my post in real time.

We are a military family living in southern Germany. We CD our son and use American detergent, but recently I have learned that is not the best thing for our European front loader.

Any suggestions? The water is super hard here, so that is an issue as well.

So happy to find this board Big Smile

Re: good morning! Anyone CD'ing in Germany?

  • I second using Calgon for the hard water problem.

Honestly, the reason I decided not to CD DD was because of the washing machine problem. On our old washer, I would have had to continue to go down to the cellar every single time I needed to set an extra rinse cycle (I've heard extra rinsing is important with CDs?). On our new washer I can set the number of rinse cycles automatically, so what's holding me up right now is the detergent. I'm interested to see the responses! There isn't a huge selection of detergents where I usually shop anyway, but I could always order something online.

  • Are you using a new washing machine?  If not, I would prep it to eliminate as much of the old detergent buildup as well as any hard water buildup.  Run a hot empty load with 2-3 cups of white vinegar.

I really like Crunchy Clean.  They sell a laundry soap specifically for CD's and for an extra 75 cents you can get a hard water add on for each bag.  She will ship overseas too! I have been using it for 4 years, love it!

Hi Jen, first run your washer once at 95 degrees with no soap, or anything just to clean up any build up soap in there. For the hard water (same problem in belgium) we use Calgon and I am pretty sure they have it in Germany. We just use a tablet every time we run a wash.

Hi! Yes, thank you, I did that last week and it helped a lot. I do already use Calgon for every wash.

Nope, not new. It's an LG, rented through the American goverment, so who knows what people have been doing to it!

I have heard good things about Crunchy Clean, thank you.
