My baby doesn't blink

Ok, so that's an exaggeration, but seriously, he could win a staring contest! I only notice it when he's fighting going to sleep. They only way to get him to fall asleep is to swaddle him and sit on a bouncy exercise ball and bounce him until he fades off. He fights closing his eyes for SO long and I will watch for a long time waiting for him to blink and he won't. I've even tried to keep my eyes open as long as he does w/o blinking and can't. I hope this isn't a sign of a problem... maybe I should watch to see if this happens when it's not nap/night time.

Re: My baby doesn't blink

  • So funny that you wrote this.  My baby usually falls asleep easily at night (with a bottle and rocking) but last night she would not STAY asleep.  I had her swaddled and was bouncing her on an exercise ball.  I was looking at her to see if her eyes were getting sleepy and not only were they wide awake, they didn't blink in what seemed like a LONG time.  I'm not worried though, I hope it's normal, just strange.

  • I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading that they don't have to blink as often as adults do.

  • My husband and I had the exact same conversation! Our LO hardly blinks either! It is so funny that our older children joke and have staring contests with her:
