Babies: 9 - 12 Months

bed time help!

So I have twin (almost) 10 month old girls. For the past month or 2 they have been going to bed super early because they get beyond crabby otherwise and over tired. I usually feed them Solids  at 4:30ish and their bottles by 530/6pm and they are in bed no later than 6/630pm usually 6. I hate that they go down this early but it seems like they get frantic to eat then and over tired. Any suggestions on what I can do to push their bedtime bottle back an hour?

Also, They seem to always fuss randomly for 2 hours into their sleep and then they sleep pretty sound until they wake at 6am. Do any of you experiance this as well?

Re: bed time help!

  • I don't have this experience but I do know (from experience) that pushing bedtime back usually means worse night sleeping. DD tends to wake up more and wake up either her normal time or earlier, which means not a full night sleep for her or me.

I suggest leaving  bottle/bedtime the way it is for now, it will probably change at some point.

That being said, special occasions or days you are out maybe you could try giving them an afternoon/evening nap to hold them over a little longer.  Hope this helps!

  • Could you do a morning nap, as well as an afternoon nap??

  • Ds goes to bed at that time every night too. It works for us. I'm curious as to why you want to shift their bedtime.

  • What is their sleep schedule like the rest of the day? How long are their naps?

  • DS gets his last bottle around 5:30 or 6 every night as well. He usually sleeps until 5 or 6 am. I see no reason to change your routine.

  • Agree with PP's, what is the napping schedule like... if they go to bed between 6 and 6:30 and wake between 6 and 7 that's awesome in my book! That is what DS does if he doesn't take an afternoon nap. I say enjoy an early bed time while you can!

  • It sounds like you have a pretty great routine established!  I know 6:00 seems a bit early for bed time but if it's working for them then why change it?!  The only thing that works for me in the evening to push bed time back a bit is a bath because my DD absolutely loves bath time.  And we don't have any waking up issues now but from 7 months to 9 months she would wake up at all different times, sometimes 2 hours in or middle of the night and it just worked itself out.  As long as they can put themselves back to sleep I wouldn't worry about it!  :)

  • Thanks ladies!

I dont mind the early bedtime except lately I'm worried with daylight savings coming up that they'll be eating their last bottle between 4-5pm and waking that early if they go up on hour in schedule! :(

  • Oh and also some people asked about their naps. Right now they wake around 6am...Nap from 8:30ish-10am and then nap again at 1/130-2/230pm.
