Now, THIS is seriously sad

Thursday morning, DH went on a really hard call.  It was a 3-year old little boy that was, "code blue."  (Not breathing).  The guys worked very hard on him, but DH did not expect him to live.  The mother did not speak much English and kept asking DH, "He'll be okay, right?" over and over.  All the firefighters that went on the call have kids about the same age.  When DH got home, he told Nora, "Daddy needs lots of love today, he had a hard morning."  *sob*

  • Awe....

DH was watching a show last night, this couple was talking about their DC that had just died at 15mo old... he started tearing up and changed the channel. Then this morning he got Jake up early and sat on the couch with him for about 20min... just sippin' milk and watching cartoons.

Having a kid has REALLY changed my DH, he's much more emotional now.

  • Yes those calls are the worst!

  • DH is a firefighter too and I can't stand those times when he has a call that makes him sad.  :(

    I wish I knew...

  • That is awful, I am so sorry for that family and for the reponse teams...
  • Ugh.  Those must be hard calls to take.  A few years ago, one of my best friends lost her 4 year old son.  I still think about those firemen who responded to the call, knowing he was dead, and that the mom (my friend) hadn't arrived yet.  I always wondered how it was decided who was going to deal with her when she arrived on scene.
  • I don't know how your DH does it. Thank God he does, but I would not be able to get out of bed after something like that.

  • :(  Sometimes, in grieving for the families, I'm afraid I forget to think of others affected like the first responders.  I will now though.
