Pregnant after a Loss

I'm back again! But nervous!

DH and I just found out Sunday evening that we are pg again and due June 14th. This is our 5th pg and have a DS that will be 2 this month. Our OB wants to place me on prometrium starting asap but the pharmacy wants almost $400 a month for the prescription and our insurance wont cover it until we have met our deductible. We can't afford that! Usually I am spotting by now and/or starting to mc but other than a bit of small spotting over the weekend, I haven't experienced any cramping or spotting/bleeding since. We have decided that this is our last shot at another little one so this is a bit nerve racking. If you could please send your thoughts a prayers for a H&H 9 months it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Re: I'm back again! But nervous!

  • Congrats!  Also you should ask your ob for the generic of prometrium, just called progesterone.  I'm sure its much cheaper.  Good luck and h&h 9 months!

  • Congrats!  Wishing you a H&H 9 months.

I agree with PP, ask for generic or an alternative.  There are other progesterone options that may be cheaper (or covered by your insurance).

  • Congratulations!

I agree that it might be worth looking into a generic form of progesterone.  Also, when I was put on Crinone, my OB mentioned that she had a bunch of samples she could give me.  Maybe your OB's office has some that might help defray the cost?

ETA: Some pharmaceutical companies offer coupons with discounts off of the cost of a prescription.  That might be something else to look into.

  • Maybe you could just buy a natural progesteron cream that cost like 50 for a trimester worth. I used one this time and baby boy is doing great. The cream I used was a over the counter natural cream for menopausal woman. Worked wonders for me. And congrats on the new pregnancy.

  • Lurking...

Ask for the progesterone and you can also ask for a weeks worth vs. the whole month. You'll still probably pay OOP but it would be cheaper right at this very moment.

  • Thanks guys. The deductible is pretty high and we are required to cover all costs until we have met it :-( The generic cost only $100 less so we still aren't able to afford it at the moment. I am trying my best to remain calm for the LO and not to get too stressed out.
  • Congratulations and welcome! I hope you can find the generic version and all will be well!!

I would at least talk to your ob about the natural cream that is over the counter please. I know a prescription make you feel better but the cream is just as good and a heck of a lot cheaper. Please don't discount it just because you didn't get a script for it.
