I'm on mirena and they said there would spotting for the first 6-12 weeks. Well I've had the thing for 6mos and I've basically been on my period the whole time. It sucks. Anyone else have this happen? Is it normal? I've moved so I'm still trying to get an appt with my new dr.

 

Also, any one have any opinions/info on other IUD's out there? I might want to switch. TIA!

I've had mine since the end of March or so and I had a lot of spotting until I went for my 6/8? week check up and had her clip the strings because DH could feel them.  Once she did that the spotting stopped.  It may be coincidence but maybe you shoud have your OB check the position or have her clip the strings.

Oh, that would suck!  I have no advise, as this post is one of the biggest reasons I chose not to do an IUD...if there are "issues" it's not just an easy fix as them calling something new in.  I hope you're able to figure it out and get some relief.  Even though you've moved, call your old OB and just see what they say, and even see if they can recommend a dr in your area.

I had the copper one and it was horrible! Bleed like a stuck pig to put it nicely, horrible cramps (had to take 600mg of Ibuprofen) and had my period or spotting for 10-12 days every month. Was never so happy to get that out after 4 years! Normally I bleed very lightly for maybe 5 days and never had cramps. Was not a good experience with the copper one for me

Good to know! I had been thinking about doing perigard. I do NOT want those side affects! I have to talk to my insurance before I can get a dr's appt and they had today off (stupid Columbus Day). So tomorrow I will call and get an appt and talk to my old dr about some possible fixes. I wanted Mirena cuz it was low maintenance and saved me buying all those expensive feminine products! I've had just the opposite
