4th bite...no report

DS was bit yet again and I didn't notice...again...until I got home.  No accident report.  I know that DS isn't much of a crier but four times in two months?!?!  I even asked his teachers when I picked him up if he had a good day and they said he had a fantastic day.  I just don't know what to do.

  • I'd be furious.  That is completely unacceptable.  Do they know who the biter is?  That child needs constant monitoring, imo.
  • Loading the player...
  • talk to the director. That would piss me off big time.

  • DH grilled his teacher when he dropped off DS this morning because his main concern was that they weren't watching DS close enough to not notice, for the 4th time, that DS had been bit.  They just gave their standard answer that they watch the kids closely but DS never complains. She said they are aware of a biter in the class but can't really do anything when they don't see a child biting DS.

I told DS last night that if someone bites him to tell them no-no and bite them back.  Probably shouldn't teach him that but maybe if this kid gets a taste of her (I think it's a girl) own medicine.....

Absolutely. I've done the preschool/daycare thing as a teacher and you HAVE to be aware of something like that. It makes me wonder how it happens without the teachers noticing. What are they doing?

  • That really really sucks.  I think you're going to have "bite search" him before you leave every day.

  • I can totally see where they would not see, especially if he doesn't make noise.  I just have one child to watch, She has bitten 4 times.  One time, I never would have known if I hadn't been watching her.  The other child never made a peep.  Obviously in a room with 4 or 5 other kids, no one can watch the biter all the time.

When they do see the bite, they should handle it.  I would want to know what they are doing.  Also, if my child was doing anything to provoke the bite.  3 out of 4 times DD bit, the other child was trying to take something from her and she is much smaller than most kids, so they easily take things away.

  • Ditto Neeser.  Check him before you leave - make sure they know why you're checking him (because they are sending him home with bites) and keep telling them to watch for a biter.  It's all you can do, short of sitting there with him all day.  Grrr.
