So I am thinking ahead to the next time I have a baby and realize I may not end up with a baby who fits in OS at 2.5 weeks... so I was thinking of getting prefolds and some covers. Thing is, although I've been CD'ing for several months now I have virtually no idea about prefolds and covers. So my questions are:
How many prefolds and covers would you recommend for nb?
Are there any name brands that are better than others or ones to avoid?
And any other info regarding cd'ing nb would be great! TIA

Re: newborn stash
36 pfs and 4-6 covers to wash every other day. Look for double gusseted covers. I used Proraps Classic (not pretty, but cheap and we *never* had a leak) and Thirsties XS. Both of those have scoops for the umbilical stump. Thirsties Duo size 1 will also fit a newborn. Bummis Super Brite is gusseted (Super Whisper Wrap is not) and one of my favorite covers in larger sizes, but the newborn size is cut a lot smaller than other NB covers that I doubt it would fit very long.
I think any brand of PF should be ok - GMD, Imagine, OsoCozy, Bummis, etc. Get whatever you can find a good deal on!

GMD's are my favorite prefolds. Prefolds aren't my favorite, but I always keep a few around for when I don't do laundry and run out of my go-to diapers
For a nb, I'd recommend 24-36...but closer to 36 if you are doing only prefolds and at least 6 covers. I love the thirsties xs covers, but if you have tiny new newborns like me (6lb range), they won't fit for a few weeks, (will be a little baggy/bulky). I'm on the search for some smaller covers for the very beginning. Bummis super brite nb are small, I had a few before, but they seemed kind of stiff to me though.
