I knew someone who spelled their name that way. Her parents wanted to pronounce it Tawnya instead of Tan-ya so they spelled it like that. I have also known a Tonia pronounced Tawn-ya.
I never liked the way it looked but everyone did pronounce it correctly.
EDIT To be fair, I have no idea if Tonia is correct or not. I always assumed it wasn't for no real reason.
I guess I'm the only one who thinks it's strange! I've known plenty of Tanyas, but never with a W like that.
One of my closest friends is named Tanya. We pronounce it like "Tawn-ya." I know you CAN pronounce it "Tan-ya" but I've never known anyone who said it that way, so the emphasis on that seemed weird to me.

Most of the people I have known with this name pronounce that way.
Oh thank goodness you were just talking about this name and not asking about using it
My name is Tanya, and I guess pronounced like Tawnya, just not so hard on the aw. Not as in the color tan.
Many people pronounce it Tan-ya (color tan), to me that would be more southern. The appearance of Tawnya just makes me cringe... but I'm sure that's because of my name!
