"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn," is what comes to mind for me. Along with many other scenes and lines of dialogue from the book/movie, and the image of Clark Gable.
Like PP just mentioned, I fall into the group of people that just don't get the name. Maybe it's NMS.
To me it sounds more like a sound than a name. I just asked DH what he thought of the name and he said "What"? several times before he realized what the name was.

Honestly, it reminds me of Rett Syndrome which a condition in girls that is similar to autism. I'm a mental health professional, so take it that into consideration
Rhett Butler ("My dear, I don't give a damn") and Gone With the Wind are the first things that come to mind, then my nephew. I'm actually starting to hear this name a lot lately. I really, really (not quite love) it.
It makes me think of a meat head lol And I don't mean to use that to knock the name, because I think its a fine name. I just think of a guy with muscles ha
I love this name! If it didn't look so matchy with DS' name and sound weird with our ln, it would be very high on our list! I'm still considering looking past those issues and just using it!
People don't "get" it as much as I expected. Half of the time people are just like 'lie Rhett Buttler?" and then we're good. The other half of the time, people are like "Brett? Rex? No? How do you spell it? R-E-T? Did you make that up?" I really didn't expect it to be so difficult, but some people have trouble.
Ha! This has been happening the same way with Atticus. Seriously people? They may not be common names, but they're both pretty iconic IMO.
I love Rhett, and was pumped when Daisy decided to use it. I've known one IRL; he's my age.

Same here. Too many difficult/sad associations with this one.
Re: Rhett opinions
Gone With the Wind
It was the name one of my cabbage patch kids came with.
My first thought is nms, but Everett nn Rhett is growing on me.
Sexy Rhett Butler
I love it!
