chick peas and lentils?

DD is 6 months, and i'm looking for foods I can feed her that are rich with iron if I decide to not give her the rice cereal. I was reading chick peans and lentils are rich with iron...are they okay to give to her this early?

also.. when did you start to mix foods together?

You will get a LOT of different opinions.

There are two basic camps I think though.  There are those that follow a 3-4 day wait rule for a while and then there are those who follow no wait rule.

I follow no wait rule and do BLW so I think those foods are awesome.  I also give DS sauteed spinach which he LOVES and meat strips when ever I make steak or London broil because heme-iron )from blood) is the easiest for the body to take up and absorb.  Also, my kids go bonkers for steak and suck it 'till it's grey!

I gave my little one black beans yesterday from a can, just rinsed them off and he ate them up.

DS LOVES hummus, and he just had some lentils the other day and loved them.

My DD sees a naturopathic pediatrician and she suggested 1/8tsp of blackstrap molasses mixed into whatever food you're giving as a great way to get iron.
