Should the Mormon church lose it's tax exempt status

for giving 20 of the 40 million dollars spent on  the Yes on 8 campaign.  I think the church should not be able to fund a change to the states constitution.

Re: Should the Mormon church lose it's tax exempt status

  • No. Nonprofits and churches are allowed to campaign on issues without losing their tax exempt status.  Churches are allowed to advocate on issues.

If they started distributing fliers in the pews telling Mormons to vote for McCain, which IS a violation of the IRS code, then yes, I would say they should lose their tax exempt status.

  • all relgion is big business, tax them all!
  • No.  Many, many churches give money & preach politics from the pulpit...Just look at Obama's old Pastor's sermons.  If we crack down on one, they need to crack down on them all & they in no way have the money nor resources to do it.
