Double strollers- Duoglider vs Sit & Stand

I really can't decide whether or not to get a double stroller.  Our son will be almost 3 (2 yrs 8 months) when the new baby is born in May. I can't imagine chasing him while trying to stay close to and tend to the baby, but by almost 3 will he even want to be in a stroller anymore period and will he be too huge for one?  In September he was 32 lbs and 36.5 inches tall, so 80th and 90th percentiles.  The sit and stand and Graco duo glider both have 40 lb weight limits per seat so no difference between those.  I guess I'm wondering if he'll be too tall to use either type of stroller.

I've heard so many pros and cons about both the Graco duoglider and similar style strollers as well as the Sit and Stand types of strollers too.

I know a girl with a duoglider and a 2.5 yr old and a 9 month old.  She says she's glad she has a double stroller because she can't imagine chasing the older one all the time if she were just using a single with the baby, but she now wishes she bought a Sit and Stand instead.

At BRU I was really not impressed with the sit and stand's quality and the salesperson actually completely trashed it when I asked about it vs. the duoglider.  There's no back rest on a sit and stand for the older child and the seat looked very flimsy so would my son even want to use the thing and if he was tired he couldn't sleep.

What about the Sit and stand Plus strollers that convert from a double to a sit and stand by removing the back seat?  Sounds great but then the older child has to be in the back seat which looks hard to get them in and out of to me, especially since I know I am required to have another c-section.  At least with duoglider he could just get in and out of the front on his own.  If it helps, I have a Graco snugride infant seat.

Re: Double strollers- Duoglider vs Sit & Stand

  • I'd go with the sit 'n stand. ?We have the Baby Trend version that starts off as a traditional tandem with a real seat in the back. ?My oldest was 23 months at the time. ?He really didn't like that back seat, though, so within a month we took it out, and he loved standing in the back. ?At almost 3 years, I think your son is old enough for a regular sit 'n stand. ?I can't imagine him needing to fall asleep in the stroller.

I know that I've just had to revise my standards of what I want in a stroller as I have more children. ?When I had just one, I used the single Graco Quattro Tour, and I loved it. ?I loved the huge basket, the parent and child trays, that it leaned all the way back, and that it was so sturdy. There was just no way I could deal with the huge Graco double strollers, though. ?Those were things I could give up to have a smaller stroller. ?These days, I mostly use the umbrella stroller for the baby, and my 2.5 year old does a lot of walking.?

  • I'd get the sit n' stand from Baby Trend.  I haven't found it to be flimsy, at all.  And, my 3 y/o seems very comfortable.  I love that it has a buckle so I can buckle him in if necessary.  I wouldn't worry about the weight, my SIL uses hers with her 5 y/o still.  If you feel like you still need a double when your baby is older, I'd get the Jeep side by side.  It folds up small, reclines a little in case you're out late (good for Disney trips) and is inexpensive.
