I'm curious, because you provided passages about homosexuality for me yesterday. Doesn't the Bible mention drunkenness, too? And I know you've posted about being drunk before...so does that put you in the same boat as gays?
this is a point that I can't get past with the biblically anti-gays...they will vote for legislation against human rights, but god FORBID you try to alter gun or alcohol laws...
Galations 5:21 "and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."
The Bible is against killing people. But does that mean you should outlaw EVERYTHING that has that ability.
The majority of gun owner would never even consider using them to kill another person. Hunting and murder are very different!
this is beside the topic- sorry I mentioned it, but I find hunting and gun ownership to be in poor taste.
I don't see what a gun is for if not to end some form of life? It doesn't serve other purposes? or does it? knives do, cars do, even swords are great if you're a sword swallower...
BOF - come on. Do you think we could have won World War II without guns? What - we would have taken the Nazis on with bayonets? Would that have been more moral somehow? Do you know how many people save themselves from robberies and rape and murder by using their guns every day in self defense? Demonizing a weapon rather than its misuse is just silly.
I am talking about private citizen's with guns, silly! I realize that if we're going to solve our problems with war that we need instruments of destruction!
Do you know how many accidental deaths are caused by those people who have guns for the purpose of self defense?
Its just an opinion. I don't like guns. I do not like them sam i am.
No one's making you have a gun. Just don't try to take other people's rights away. And yes, I would classify gun ownership as a human right.
So all those people who saved themselves from crimes (and we can get into a statistics debate about guns use in crime vs. in self defense, I'm sure) should have just sucked it up? Do you know how many people are killed with other types of weapons? Should they all be banned too? Do you really think gun ownership should be left up to the government's discretion (i.e., you get one when you join the military)? What happens if they are the very ones oppressing you (see Revolution, American; or the Sudan)?

Thank God for the second amendment.
ditto this....don't carry one if you don't want one...but allow others to carry them if they chose.

What about the dumbshit who was shooting his gun in the alley last night? the shells were on my PORCH. What about the guy who shot at my husband a couple of years ago FOR NO REASON. Sure I live in the city- but in a pretty decent neighborhood ( semi transitional, this was a rough summer, though,,.)
There are great reasons to have guns, I suppose, but there are better reasons not to.
I DO NOT see gun ownership as a basic human right, that sounds nutty.
I think that people are more entitled to marry each other than to be able to shoot each other.
A woman was axed to death in the lobby of my building in NYC. Should I therefore try to enact legislation to ban axes? Seriously - where is the logic!? If someone misuses a gun, and your example suggests that he did, that is what the police are for. Call them. Demand prosecution.
There is nothing more fundamental than your right to life, and to defend your life. That's where the second amendment comes from.
GHM - no offense, and I mean this in the sincere, not b*&tchy way (!), this is a message board. People post messages. Not all of them pertain to the very first post in a thread.
Of course I called the police both times! Guess what I got? The ghetto bird flying above my yard, and a postcard in the mail letting me know that they give up, they just don't know.
I am being idealist- I know- but I just really do not like guns.
and GHM, I am sorry for turning this into a totally different post- my fault!!
Re: Annak23--what does the Bible say about drunkenness?
What do guns have to do with the Bible?
isn't that a commandment?
thou shalt shoot whomever steps on thou's property if thou wants to in the name of sweet fancy jesus, amen?
just kidding. I just added that b/c this convo ALWAYS makes me think of my FIL, and it always then turns to drinking to excess and gun laws...
