Trouble TTC

IUI #2 did not go well :(

So apparently I have a cervical blockage. During my HSG back in March, they had to grab my cervix with the tenaculum and then dilate it in order to get the cath through. Then with IUI #1 they had to use the tenaculum again to pull the cervix down and straighten it to get the cath in. Both experiences were very painful.

Today, they had to resort to the dreaded tenaculum once again. It was taking forever, I was in pain, and apparently bleeding quite a bit. He worked at it for a while, but after it was over, he still said he wasn't confident that he got the cath all the way in to where it needed to be. Great.

Based on all of this, he said we may need to move to IVF if this cycle is a bust. Hell, I already do feel like this cycle is a bust. I was just not emotionally prepared for it to go so badly or to hear that we need to move to IVF. I'm a bit of a mess now. I thought we'd be doing IUIs for at least a couple more months. If this cycle is a BFN, then we'll have an appointment to discuss how to proceed, whether I'll need a lap, when we can cycle for IVF, etc.

Does anyone else have any experience with a cervical blockage? It just seems so frustrating that I'm ovulating nicely, DH's sperm are doing great, and we have something as simple as a physical blockage that will push us all the way to IVF. :(

    I'm sorry IUI #2 didn't go well.

When I had my lap, my RE discovered I had cervical stenosis (a narrow cervix). He said it was severe and was pretty much almost completely closed. He said he could not get any instruments in during my surgery. So, he widened the opening of my cervix and said he's had great and long-lasting success with that procedure. My RE seemed to think (at first) we could have done this on our own anyway, but due to other issues, he has now recommended IUI. He has not suggested IVF to us at all.

    Good luck to you!

ETA: He didn't seem too concerned about us being able to conceive AFTER the procedure to widen my cervix.

My RE has never mentioned anything about cervical blockages, but every IUI I have done they have had issues "finding my cervix" I guess it is tilted. IUI #4 for me was by far the worst I actually felt like I had been hit in the vag witha baseball bat and I had some large blood clots for 2 days after the IUI. FX that this IUI worked for you so that you don't have to move on to IVF.

Hoping they can come up with a good plan that doesn't involve so much pain, maybe if IVF can get avoid all that crazy it will be worth as scary as it sounds. I am so sorry again. ((((hugs)))))

I don't have any experience with cervical blockage either :(  Just wanted to say sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully this IUI works so you don't have to move on to IVF.

If this cycle doesn't work, maybe try to think of the fact that you won't be "wasting" any more IUI's if your chances are less because of the blockage. I don't know how many IUI's you were planning on doing (or if that is something you've even discussed), just trying to find some kind of silver lining! But FX this cycle is it for you anyways, it only takes one, right?

I'm so sorry.  That sounds awful.  It may be a little wacky but maybe try acupuncture.  I'm going in for an appointment today and while I've never actually seen results (other than relaxing) my research tells me that it can do amazing things for fertility patients.

I absolutely feel your pain! My doctor didn't say it was cervical blockage for me, but he just bascially said my cervix was extremely tight/narrow and needed to be stretched. He never gave me a fancy name or specific diagnosis. But they came to this conclusion after my saline sonogram and my 1st IUI. He said both procedures were going to be relatively painless -- but unfortunately they were awfully painful for me. They were unable to get the cathedar in and I honestly do not know what they did to get the procedures to work - but whatever it was, I never want to go through that again. After my IUI he said he wanted to do a cervical dilation procedure which in turn will widen and stretch my cervix. I was terrified of the pain, but the procedure itself was about 5 minutes max and really wasnt that bad. I had it done last Monday and my IUI will be tomorrow :) He said the procedure would be effective for at least a few months, if not forever.. they just have to monitor it.
