finally sleep training

I know I am a little behind on doing this- but I started sleep training A tonight. He is still getting up 1-2 times (or more) to nurse and it can take over an hour to get him back to sleep. And I just can't do it anymore. I am just too exhausted. One morning he was up at 4 am and my alarm goes off at 4:45 so I was up for the day. And the next morning he was up from 3:30 to 5 am so I never went back to sleep. So tonight I nursed him and put him in his crib awake. He cried for 30 minutes and finally went to sleep. I was happy he didn't cry longer because it broke my heart to not be able to pick him up. I am really hoping he sleeps through the night so I don't have to do this again and again tonight. Highly doubtful though- I am sure he will wake up to nurse.

I am going to do this in steps- so for now I will nurse him if he wakes up but I won't rock him back to sleep in the middle of the night. As soon as he nurses I will put him back in his crib. Once he can get to sleep on his own I will work on cutting out the night time feedings. I wish there was an easier way!

  • Good Luck mama! Hope A STTN soonSmile

  • Stay strong! Sleep training was one of the best decisions I made. It's tough at first but everyone will be happier with more sleep.

  • Hang in there.  We are trying to cut out the last night feeding around 4am too.  I let her whine/fuss as long as it takes and if she gets too riled up I do go in and pick her up and sit with her --only had to do that once so far.  Unfortunately she is waking up earlier at 5:30/5:45 instead of sleeping till 6/6:30 but I hope she'll revert.

ETA: We did sleep training months ago for bedtime which did cut out the non-hunger wakings.  It has taken a while but on her own she dropped all but this last one and I am sure she'd drop this too but I'm just so exhausted and she is not hungry so it's time.
