Planned C-section Mamas - packing list

For those of you who had planned c-sections, what was on your list for the hospital.  I'm trying to start my packing list since I'm officially 4 weeks away from delivery today!  I'd love to see what you found most useful/essential since I didn't get to plan at all last time.  It's exciting to be doing more of the "normal" things!

Re: Planned C-section Mamas - packing list

  • Ha ha, I'm scheduled for my repeat c-section on 9/25 and still haven't packed yet.

Things I was happy I brought last time:
    - Cell phone and charger
    - Comfy nightgowns
    - My toiletries
    - Makeup and flat iron
    - Wrist braces (my carpal tunnel didn't go away right away.)
    - Laptop and charger
    - My own pillow!
    - Boppy and Breast Friend pillows

Hmmm, can't think of anything else right now but will update when I can. This time I'm bringing my kindle too.. although not sure how much time I'll have to read... Good luck! Guess I better get packing since I'm less than 2 weeks away and could go into labor this time- ha!

  • Can I just say how excited I am for you! YAY!!!

I'm not sure if packing for a c-section is any different then packing for a regular birth, but I had the norm, robe, nursing bra's, socks, baby book for footprints (if they allow that), yoga pants, flip flops, laptop, chargers for computer, phone, etc.

  • I didn't have a planned c/s with DS, but ended up with one.  I don't think you should pack much differently, but to make sure that you have really loose pants, like yoga pants to wear.  My incision is about 1/4 of an inch from my pubic hair line, so I think most of them are pretty low and typically covered by taped gauze, but I remember not wanting anything touching that area or any kind of pressure.

  • nothing terribly different

I didn't bring much - I had enough to bring home w/ all the hospital freebies.  I don't have a laptop or Ipad, but I really couldn't see having much time for them either.

I brought my robe, probably should have brought some sock; cellphone and camera and chargers.  I wore the same outfit there to have DD that I wore home.  Remember your feet/lower legs will probably be swollen from all the fluids, so you might want to bring flip flops too.

    Boppy pillow was super helpful

I wore the mesh undies and their pads until the day after I got home.

Bring snacks too.  The hospital food was not good and eating a meal just wasnt' really feasible w/ the baby in and out - I needed lots of one handed snacks and juice boxes.

  • So excited for you!!!! Party!!!

I didn't have a c/s but the things I really needed at the hospital were my cell phone and charger, camera, and my flip flops. Obviously, a change of clothes and some toiletries are good to have but I didn't need much.

  • I think I totally missed this. Congrats! I didn't have a c-section, but I brought a ton of stuff that I never used - my own pj's, my laptop, etc. etc. My room was REALLY warm (seriously, it was 80 degrees) and it was easier just to wear the gown to bf. I did have a robe for when I had visitors, though.

  • My c-section wasn't really planned but I had a couple of hours to pack for it. I didn't pack much. Comfy clothes (sweats and T-shirt). My own pads because the "hospital adult diaper like pads" suck.

Hairbrush, shampoo and some lotion and eyeliner.

And of course some books, laptop and phone including charger.

One coming home outfit for baby.

    That's about it

  • Pack a few extra bags (like the res-useable grocery bags).  I came home with way more than I brought (gifts, diapers, etc.).  Other than that, some comfy clothes for the hospital.  DH ended up going home to get shorts and flip flops, even though DD was born in Feb., it was really warm in our room.

  • I'm a light packer and I didn't want to have to bring a whole lot home to clean so I brought:

    chapstick

    phone and charger

    brush

    boppy

    lotion

    make up

take home outfit for the Goose

    Book

I wore the hosptial gowns when I was there and just wore my clothes home that I came to the hospital in.  DH went home every day, so I just had him pick up anything that I needed - mostly it was starbucks.  :)

  • I don't have anything to add and I'm late to this thread- but I just wanted to say that I'm so happy that you are only 4 weeks away and that everything has been going well!

  • TUMS- oh my god I needed them so bad and they couldn't give them to me without a doctor signing off.

Snacks- I had everything from granola to beef jerky and I needed it.

    My own nightgowns

    Fuzzy socks

    Laptop, charger, camera, phone

Pack more than one going home outfit. I was feeling so good I started wearing my going home outfit on day 4 and then looked a hot mess when we left. I wish I would have worn something nicer.

  • I didn't have a chance to read all of the replies but the thing I would not have survived without was my back scratcher. Because of all the pain meds I was given during surgery I was SO itchy afterward. The itching didn't subside until my first or second night home so I was really glad I had it.
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
  • Ha!  The back scratcher is so funny!  We have one that DH uses all of the time and Bobby yells.  BIG FORK!
