Maternity Clothing for Work?

I'm 11 weeks and already gained 7 lbs.  UGH  Goodbye size 4... and 6.

Can someone tell me what works for pantyhose?  Are control tops too uncomfortable?  I normally am a B and was going to try a Q size.  Did you wear heels?  I have been wearing flats, but for more important meetings would like to wear heels/

Also, where can I get moderately priced professional maternity apparel?  I don't want to break the bank, but on the other hand don't want to look sloppy. Pea in the Pod is so overpriced.  $200+ for maternity jeans are you kidding me.  Please help got a business trip next week and I don't have anything to wear!

  • They make really comfy Maternity Nylons. Once you find your size for certain maternity brands check ebay for deals on Maternity suits. Motherhood maternity wasnt bad for prices and there is always Target.

  • I would look at Gap maternity. They always have sales and they are good, quality clothes.

  • I know it sounds weird but Good Will is great. They always have the target new clothes and usually have a maternity section. Burlington Coat Factory has a good selection too and a lot of it is the same stuff from more expensive stores.

  • I had pretty good luck at Ross and TJMaxx during my last pregnancy.

  • I am a lawyer and had to buy a TON of dress clothes. I got most of mine from Gap maternity, but Old Navy (if you can believe it) actually had a pretty good selection of dresses and sweaters.  I had great luck with non-maternity dresses in a size or two larger and/or wrap dresses.  I bought a regular black blazer from Banana Republic and just wore that unbuttoned over dresses when I had to go to court.

My all time fav nylons/tights were the target line of the spanx brand called Assets - their maternity ones were great and super comfy.  I found them on sale all of the time at my local targets and they were very durable.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice everyone.  Just because I'm prego doesn't mean I want to give up my style.  Smile  Luckily I've got some looser fitting dresses since I'm not quite maternity ready but none of my regular clothes fit anymore.  Where did these boobs come from?  I will def check out Good Will I've checked consignment shops no luck. Target is always good and I'll have to see if we have Gap maternity on the west coast.

Not sure exactly where you are, but we have Gap Maternity in Oregon - they also have a great selection online.

  • great post! i'm surprised my boss hasn't said anything because i've been wearing the same dresses like every week! they are loose fitting around the stomach and since i am bloated like nobody's business they help a lot!

i live in a city and i'm surprised a lot of these stores don't have a maternity section; does anyone know if they will take maternity returns if they aren't offered in the stores?

  • Thanks again ladies.  What about for really tall people?  I am 5 ft 9 in and pants are always too short/shirts sleeves never long enough!
