Honest opinions on girl name

Ok, so DH has always wanted to name his daughter McKenzie. The whole "Mc" in front of a name is nms, at all. I'm assuming I will get a lot of negative feedback, but I'm considering doing Kenzie alone, but spelling it with an S. Either Kensie or Kensey. Middle name would be Leigh or Elise. Kensie Elise / Kensey Leigh, either or.

 Give me your opinions, please!

Re: Honest opinions on girl name

  • I personally like the name.  We have a little girl in church whose name is McKenzie and we call her Kenzie.
then again I like "out of the box" names.

  • I'm not big on "Mc" names either. Kensie/Kensey seems incomplete or more like a NN to me. Have you considered Kelsey? It kind of has a similar feel to it.

  • I'm not the hugest fan of "Mc" names (Spelled McWhatever)- mainly because they're typically misspellings of perfectly good names.   For this reason, I'm also not the hugest fan of the alternatives you proposed.

What's wrong with just naming your daughter Mackenzie?  Or other "Mc" sounding names like Michaela or Michelena?

  • "Mc" names are NMS either, really.

If you're going to shorten it though, I much prefer the spelling with the "Z". I want to pronounce it differently when it's spelled the way you suggested.

  • I don't like Mackenzie at all. However, I'm not a big fan of Kenzie either and especially not Kensie. It sounds very juvenile to me. I liked pp's suggestion of Kelsey, or what about Chelsea?
If you end up using it, I'd definitely spell it Kenzie.

I somewhat agree that it is incomplete, but I do know a little girl named Kenzie and I've always thought it was a very cute name.

I've never been crazy about the name Kelsey. I've had the hardest time finding a girl name that I LOVE, which is why I was considering his first choice. The only names I like have been:

Eliza (after my grandmother), but I'd rather it as a middle name, which doesn't sound right to me.
Jolie, DH likes it as well, but I'm not sure if I'm sold on it yet.
Hadley, DH doesn't like this name.
Elise, but I'd rather this as a middle name as well.

Any suggestions? I'm not crazy about traditional names, yet I don't like the too-trendy girl names.

  • Kenzie is way too cutesy for me. I can't imagine being 40 years old and my name being Kenzie. I like MacKenzie better but really I'm not a fan of it either.

  • I really don't like McFirstnames.

Ditto PPs on Kelsey. I just don't feel like Kenzie ages well (and as much as I hate the Mc part, it almost looks unfinished without it).

I actually really like Brynn, I had that as a middle name option if I chose Eliza as a first name.

Leighton has been considered as well.

  • FWIW, I have a friend whose oldest is Eliza and I think it's a great name.  They call her Liza for short.  Middle name is Isabelle (So sometimes they call her Liza Belle).

    I vote for Elise Jolie.

I'm not a fan of random surnames for FNs. I'm also not a fan of NNs as full names. Kensie seems juvenile to me.  Kensie Leigh is especially juvenile to me.

  • Really dislike Kensie and Kensey because they sound like forever two-year-olds. I do have an adult friend named Kindsay and it suits her?

Edit: I do love Eliza and would vote for that for a first name!
