did I jinx my pregnancy?

I am about 11 weks pregnant. I am not sure yet as I have not had an ultrasound yet.

for the past while I have been looking at kijiji for maternity clothes. On the weekend I went to look at a set but most of the stuff was too big but I did buy a few tops from her for $5 each. Last night I went to visit another family and the clothes fit perfectly for maternity wear. If I would have tried it on in the store I would have bought it- it fit so perfectly. I got her whole wardrobe for $130 and she had bought all of it new. SCORE!!!

then I got home and things went downhill. Before going to bed when I went to the bathroom I had some bright red blood. At first I thought it was from the bowel movement no big deal, then I realized it wasn't coming from the butt. I know dark blood I should not be concerned about as it is old but this was bright rid blood - a little on the watery side. I told myself not to worry just yet and I'll check on it in the morning. this morning I had no blood - phew. however the first bathroom visit I had at work had tried blood in my underwear. Not a lot.

I was supposed to have my first ob appointment yesterday but it got postponed to Thursday since she was sick. I am now going to be a nervous wreck until my appointment. And I know my doctor refers you to get an ultrasound as she doesn't have a machine so I may not even get one that day.

By buying maternity clothes did I just jinx my pregnancy?

Re: did I jinx my pregnancy?

  • Buying maternity clothes did not jinx your pregnancy.  I would however, call your doctor and see if she can get you in today.

    t&p for you :)

  • Deep breath , hon- you did not jinx your pregnancy.  I understand that it's hard to be logical about that , but I promise you that you didn't do anything to jinx this.

As for the bleeding- I am so sorry that you are going through this.  While bleeding is always a cause for concern, there are other reasons for it besides the worst case scenario.  I have had two bright red bleeds with this pregnancy at around 6-7 weeks.  Both were with a decent amount of red blood and the second involved clots.  Turned out I had a subchorionic hematoma/hemmorage (SCH), which is basically a blood clot in the uterus. They are not all that uncommon.

I would maybe call your OB's office today and let them know about the bleeding and maybe even ask if you will get an u/s tomorrow. If your OB's office doesn't have the machine, they could send you to a hospital that has one and could do the scan for you.  In the meantime, try to stay off your feet and don't exert yourself.  Also, drink plenty of water.

Keep us posted on how you're doing.  ((Hugs))

  • No, I don't think you "jinxed" it. But you should call your OB office ASAP to tell them about the bright red blood. They will most likely have you go somewhere to have an ultrasound to see what is going on.

If you aren't having cramping along with the blood, I would try not to worry too much.

I had bleeding at 6.5 weeks and my OBs office had me go to the hospital to get an ultrasound an hour after I called them. I saw my baby doing just fine in there and was so relieved. I had a subchoriatic (sp?) hematoma that caused the bleeding and it has healed and is not a problem.

  • I'm going to sound like a jerk for saying this I'm sure, but ever thought about going to the ER just for reassurance? That's a sure way to get an ultrasound right then if you're concerned. I wouldn't want to wait either!

I hope everything is ok. FX.

All of this. Let them know about the bleeding - they might get you in for an early ultrasound...
