Trouble TTC

IUI Cost/Billing

Hey girls! I am currently in the 2ww after my 1st IUI. I looked on my insurance website and the RE billed me for $297 for the IUI. Of course, Insurance does not cover at all!! Will I be getting a seperate bill for the Sperm Wash that my husband had or is that a part of the 1 IUI charge?

Thanks!!

    Hi!  GL this cycle!

For my IUI cycles I am OOP.  I am charged $350 for the IUI and that includes the sperm wash.  You should call REs office.  Mine has a billing dept that is always very helpful.

  • My insurance had the sperm wash and the IUI on the same bill, but it was clearly called out.

I'm not sure if all insurance companies are different, but I have BCBS and it was all on one bill. GL and I hope that amount covers the wash as well.

FYI - the wash wasn't that bad, if I'm remembering correctly it was like $45-60 I think. Please ladies - correct me if I'm wrong with that #!

    GL with your cycle!

Ours were two separate charges. The IUI was about 300 and the washing was about 250.

Same Here. We always just pay up front the day of IUI. Your office might have a discounted rate for that. Some of them do.

  • I'm OOP and mine is $350 which covers the whole IUI process.  The rest of the cycle is $1,240.  So the $297 may be the total, but you should call the RE's billing office to be sure.

  • My RE is at and affiliated with our local hospital.  So is the lab that does the sperm washing, just two doors down in fact.  Every thing is billed separately for us :-/

  • I have BCBS and they do not cover any treatment. I paid 1600 this cycle for IUI and 100 for additional meds. I sure hope the sperm wash was included in that
  • Mine were included as one cost.  They were also included as one cost on my EOB from insurance.  I was able to look at a more detailed breakdown of that cost on the EOB and it did show each charge separately so I knew that the total included both the wash and the IUI.

  • In our experience the IUI charge includes the sperm wash. But judging from the amount you have been charged already it is unclear. According to an article on the cost of IUI in 2012, the average IUI only cost is $250 and the sperm wash is $100.

Sorry not to have been of more help.

TTC since October 2011. No luck yet :( But am learning lots and happy to share stuff we learn. Trying to Conceive Ticker
