Does anyone have any really really good reasons that I should NOT name baby Quentin if he's a he? Like, Quentin is the name of a genocidal dictator, or a serial murderer, or a character on Jersey Shore. I think the name is kind of weird, but I just really feel like that's what I'm supposed to same my baby if it's a boy. It's not even my first choice for names, it just feels like it's right. I know....I'm weird. Thoughts? Opinions?
Re: Why should I not name my baby Quentin?
The meaning is kind of boring, if that sort of thing matters to you, but it isn't bad or vulgar and certainly wouldn't stop me from using it.
I think of San Quentin---yes, I watch too many crime shows!
ETA: it is the largest "death row" prison in the US located in California. Lots of "bad guys."
My DH loves Quentin Tarantino's work (which I think is what made me think of the name) but he thinks Tarantino is a really weird guy and didn't like the name at first. He likes it now though.
San Quentin is also home to some of the most amazing ocean views in the Bay Area! It almost makes me jealous of the inmates every time I drive past
A bit of irony eh? Seems like a waste of a good location!
lol, I could see my brother saying this if I wanted to use that name. He just retired from there as a correctional officer(actually I think he was a supervisor), but my nephew is a CO there now.

I also knew a Quentin that had the nn of Q. I never really did like that, but I think the name Quentin is fine. For me, the nn thing is a big deal. If you like it, then go for it!

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the name, but I think you should use it.
I am weird about names. I think each baby is already 'named' and we just have to figure out what it is. When I landed on my son's name, I just knew it had to be his name even though it wasn't special to me for any reason. Sometimes I think people force names on to kids when it isn't 'right.' Go with your intuition.
I like it. I especially like Quinn as a nickname if you go that route. I also have to say, my DH is a corrections officer as well, but I didn't put the connection there at first. Funny thing is, we like the name Ryker, which reminds me if Ryker's Island. lol
