1st Trimester

Am I overreacting?

Friday I went and had my first beta done. It was 2211 and my progesterone was 5.1. (funny when I tried to get my doc to check my progesterone while I was on clomid I was told I didn't need it, anywho). I was calLed back into the office yesterday for a repeat of my bloodwork.

Oh let me add that I have been spotting since Saturday. Not a lot but enough to have me concerned with the progesterone levels. I had my blood redrawn yesterday and I was told that my results would be back today. Now earlier this week I was told that labs don't come back until after 2pm and the nurses call after the offices close with the results.

NO FREAKING CALL! I am annoyed beyond words. I didn't call them but should I have to call when I've already informed them of my spotting and asked about starting progesterone?

Right now in this moment I would rather find a new OB/GYN. Am I over reacting?

Re: Am I overreacting?

  • As someone who has had multiple losses and a total anxiety-ridden freak while pregnant, yes you're overreacting. It is irritating when you don't get that call, but realistically, you are low priority. Doctors and staff get busy. They don't prioritize beta results most times. Call the office tomorrow. I never waited for the call. I always called myself because I knew it was more likely to get the answers. Don't go switching doctors because you didn't get a phone call, of that's the only reason. Hang in there.

  • No you are not.  A progesterone level of 5 is very low and they should of put you on progesterone immediately based on that alone.

Bullshhhit.  5.1 is low and she likely needs to be supplemented, especially if she is spotting. And any OB/GYN office that doesn't understand the importance of informing patients of their results on something as anxiety-provoking as beta and prog results, especially when a patient is spotting, deserves to lose patients in my opinion. A patient with a low progesterone level, a good beta level, and spotting should be a high priority. Starting supplementation could help to maintain the pregnancy.

  • Thanks ladies! I wanted to check myself but as long as it took to get pregnant I felt like they should AT LEAST call ASAP and inform me of what the results were and next steps.

They open at 8 and I will be calling! Tonight I search for new docs.

  • I don't think you are overreacting at all. low progesterone can result in m/c and every minute counts. I would be at their door when they opened demanding supplements.

  • Update: so I called the doc office this morning and raised hell to get my lab work back. My beta went up to over 8000 and my progesterone went up to 8.1. So now I am waiting for the doc to call back and tell me what's next.

Thanks for your input ladies. I'm off to research new OBs!

You need some progesterone suppositories for sure. I would be calling them all the time to get some.
