I'm a FTM and deadset on CD but hubby's not as much. I thought the gDiaper system would be a great way to ease him into it, being they have the biodegradable inserts that would be just like disposables. After some more research, I haven't seen as many positive reviews for gDiapers as I thought.
I purchased some Fuzzibums and Bum Genius 4.0s but I don't understand them. How are these systems "easiest" when the diaper itself AND the insert gets soiled. Wouldn't you have to change the whole diaper? Please help me understand how these stuffable diapers work!
Thanks so much!
Re: I don't get it!
FBs and BGs work like you said. Each diaper change you need a new pocket stuffed with a new insert. It's just like disposables, you change the entire disposable each time.
I love my pocket diapers, they make up a vast majority of our stash. Look in to AIOs, too. Similar to pockets but the insert is attached to the diaper so you don't have to stuff it.

The benefit to pockets over a diaper that is all one piece is that they dry really quickly since the inserts are separate and can be tossed in the dryer. It's also easy to add extra absorbency if you need it by stuffing extra or different types of inserts in the pockets.
Gdiapers get mostly poor reviews from me. I think they're a scam and the quality is really poor. And the disposable inserts are really expensive so not a good everyday option.
Pocket diapers are popular because they are easy to put on (one piece, prestuffed, etc). They are slightly more expensive and you do need more pieces in your system since the pocket itself gets dirty. They are "easiest" for the person putting it on not necessarily the one doing the laundry. But if your doing laundry anyway what's a few more things?
I really like all in 2 systems ( cover and insert like grovia, flip) or covers with prefolds because I can have fewer pieces in my system (I could...I don't because I have a diaper buying "problem") since I can reuse the cover.
I have pockets, all in ones, and covers with prefolds/inserts and I use all of them in different situations. Pockets and AIOs are easier for my mom and husband to use, prefolds are more absorbant for naps and long trips out, inserts are less bulky but not as absorbant for cute outfits, etc.
Get a bunch of styles, see what you like, maybe a diaper trial.
Thank you - that's the kind of info I've been looking for! As easy as prefolds in covers seem, there had to be a reason for various types. I'll be strongly considering 2/3s prefolds, 1/3 AIO.
I thought the prefolds with covers would be SOOO much more work than AIOs until I saw one in person (I got a newborn CD sampler pack today, and was immediately baffled as to why pocket diapers exist. I found the prefolds easier to prep than the pockets.) I DO know better than to just go out and get all one type before I actually try them on DS, though.
Yes, they are. And I've just now ordered some during the 3:00am feed
