Vitamin D Drops?

I am exclusively breastfeeding my 5 week old and my pediatrician said to start Vitamin D drops.  I bought D-Vi-Sol from the drug store, but realized it has artificial color and flavoring and I would really like to avoid giving it to LO.  Are there any brands of Vitamin D drops that are natural, without artificial coloring/flavoring?  If so, where do you buy them?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Vitamin D Drops?

  • I love Carlson Labs Vitamin D drops - only one I've found that's all natural (no artificial anything).  The bottle has 365 drops - a full year's supply for your little one.  You can buy it at www.wildorchidbaby.com

  • I exclusively breastfeed also and was hesitant about giving Vitamin D drops.  I questioned my pediatrician further about it... He said that he didn't think it was really necessary in most locations because most areas receive enough sunlight (I'm in the south, so there's typically an abundance of sunlight here).  If I remember correctly, he said that five minutes of sunlight daily on the back of my LO's hand would supply her with enough Vitamin D.  Just a thought.

  • I take vitamin D myself b/c I"m deficient. DD's pedi said I didn't need to give them to her while BFing b/c she would get it through me. Now that I've cut back on BFing she takes a multivitamin with vit. D in it.

Thanks! I was wondering about natural D drops, too, and I'm going to go with these!

  • We use Carlson Labs too (whole family, our entire area is pretty well D deficient because of the amount of cloud covered days).

  • I also use Carlson D drops with my EBF 3 month old. The package says for ages 2 years and older, however I have talked to our Pediatrician, several IBCLC and several MW who have all said it is fine. I really wish I had known about this option with my son.
