bleach on clothes

I am not one to vent about DC.  I am usally very laid back and trust the teachers.

But tonight, I need to vent.  3 times this week LO has come home with bleach stains on his shirts.   So, basically 3 shirts are ruined.  Now, granted I don't send his nicest clothes to school, but still those shirts cost money.

I'm irriated for two reasons

1. the shirts are ruined

2. I'm confused as to why on earth is LO coming in contact with bleach.  I know they have to disinfect things, but why is it getting so close to LO.

DH thinks i should let it go, but i think I should say something to either the director or the teacher.

Thoughts?

Re: bleach on clothes

  • This has happened to us before.  It's because they bleach the changing table between changes.  So, if it's not completely dry or they used a little too much bleach in the solution, then it kills your clothes.  My DS's head smelled like bleach for about a week one time! :)  Just mention it to the teachers and ask them to make sure the table is dry and ask them to check on their bleach to water ratio.

  • I would definitely ask - bleach is a dangerous thing if left on your skin, so why is it on your child's clothing!?!  I gave myself a horrible bleach burn while cleaning with it in college.

  • We had the bleach issue too, on the seat of her pants.  When I asked about it my daughter's teacher said that sometimes when they spray bleach water on the table a little bit gets in the chairs and sometimes they don't get it wiped up completley.  I explained to her that I had several pairs of pants ruined and she said she would try to make sure that it didn't happen again. So far I haven't had any problems since then.  Even if it isn't your child's nicest clothes it is still upsetting to have to throw things away because of something like that. I would just tell the teacher about it and see if they can be more careful from now on.
