NBR: Has anyone flown Air Canada?

We have to go to Toronto in the Spring for a family wedding.  Our choices are Air Canada or US Air for direct flights.  I haven't had great experiences with US Air and was hoping Air Canada would be better.  We will be flying with the kids in their car seats on board.

  • I fly with them probably 2-3 times a year and have never had a problem beyond weather, which is obviously out of their control. However, my mother has had nothing but bad experiences so I'm pretty sure it's just luck of the draw. I flew with my daughter at 6 months and 18 months with no issues, but she was a lap-baby both times (checked her carseat). I found them very helpful and accommodating.

  • I've always liked Air Canada- my uncle is a flight attendant with them- but like every airline, you'll find people who have complaints.

If the ticket prices are comparable, I say go with AC, and see what you think!

  • We just flew AC to Ireland to save a ton of money. They were ok. Pretty slow and some mix up with checking us in that they were obnoxious and slow about correcting, even though we had a1 yr old with us. Also, each of the 4 flights we were on was delayed. Not sure if that was their fault or not, but they weren't very forthcoming with updates or info. At the end, we said we'd never fly them again, but to be honest, it was probably going to be a long hard trip for us either way, and that might have clouded our judgment.

Oh God.  All they do is go on strike.  I wouldn't chance it.

    Lol, so true.

They're alright - not amazing, not terrible.

  • I have only flown with them a handful of times, and only when I didn't have any other choice. They are terrible. Every single flight I've ever had with them has been a nightmare from check in to landing.

I flew with them last year and they were terrible. The stewardess' were rude, they changed my flight plans without telling me, they lowered their luggage weight (I didn't end up paying because it still showed the old weight on the website and my ticket print-out), and every single time I flew with them, they lost my luggage, and it would take 3-4 days before I got it back.

    I hate Air Canada.

West Jet is way better and a lot more accommodating.

I agree completely. I work with guys that fly with AC all the time. And it's hit and miss. Either things went fine or there's a major screwup. They're notoriously late too.
  • My husband loves Air Canada. It's a little more expensive, but he thinks it's worth it.
