so anyone had back labor

I started Tylenol 3 Thursday night for the mass amount of back pain I've been having. Yesterday was fantastic felt like myself was able to move. Last night the back pain came back just as strong even though I have been taking the T3 regularly. Today I have had no relief from the back pain at all. I am planning to call L&D to find out what they say. But I'm wondering if any of you have expereienced back labor, what it was like, and how you knew you were actually in labor?

Re: so anyone had back labor

  • I have had intense back pain on a regular basis since LO dropped. My LO is breech though and my OB says that her position has a lot to do with it. I would think if it were actual labor you would have some relief occasionally. Hard to say though...

  • I had really bad back labour with my second, and I could barely walk.  But it didn`t last for weeks, just the day I was in labour.  I was also have contractions that weren`t consistant, I lost my mucous plug, and I was dialated a bit.  So if I had to guess I would say no to the back labour.  In my experience you would have other labour symptoms too.

With this baby, I have a seperated pelvis, and that is resulting in the worse back pain I have ever had.  It has been there for months, but has gotten excrutiating in the past few weeks since baby is dropping.

  • I haven't had it, but I've heard that not only can the back pain sometimes be associated with the contractions, but even if you're not having contractions, but can "time" your back pain, that it can be back labor. You'll have timeable back pains instead of timeable contractions... for a little, anyway.

  • Back labor for me came in waves, like a regular contraction. I had it bad with DS2 and I seriously thought he was breaking my tailbone/hip, but the pain would go away and come back a few minutes later. Very timeable, not continuous. I hadn't had back pain prior to labor though. He was "sunny side up" though.
