Breakfast Ideas

Hi everyone, I'm stuck in a rut and need some help. I'm lost for ideas on what to serve my 15 month old for breakfast.  He loves everything he has tried and loves to eat.  This morning he had a pancake and a peach, but then he was searching for more to eat, so he had a yogurt.  He seems to be hungry more in the morning than any other time of the day.  What can I give him that will keep him full and satisfied?

Re: Breakfast Ideas

  • My DD has a 1 egg spinach, mushroom, and cheese omelette almost every day.  She doesn't like meat so it is one of the few places I can give her protein.  She will have that and a banana or some other fruit and sometimes a piece of dry toast as well and is good to go.

  • I was going to say the same as pp...eggs. DS loves them either in omelet or scrambled with cheese.

  • today i made him a smoothie and toast and put the toast in the oven with a piece of muenster cheese on top. Usually he will have an egg with a waffle and milk, bowl of oatmeal, banana with cheerios and egg. Idk milk always seems to add to the meal too in terms of keeping him satisfied though on the mornings he has a smoothie i don't give him any milk

  • DS is allergic to eggs so I am somewhat limited. Here's what's in our rotation: wheat pancake or waffle (homemade so no eggs), whole yogurt or oatmeal with fruit mixed in and multigrain toast with peanut butter. Some type of fresh fruit always occompanies these and probably a handful of cheerios or two while I'm getting it ready. He has a great appetite in the morning so I will give him as much as he will eat as he doesn't do as well  at the other meals.

  • My child is a huge protein eater. She will eat Canadian bacon, sausage, or eggs every morning. In addition, she has some form of fruit, some cereal/toast/waffles/pancakes, and sometimes some Greek yogurt (more filling than regular).

  • I usually put peanut butter on a pancake when DS has them to add protein and make it more filling.  He also loves oatmeal, so we do that frequently. Sometimes he'll have eggs and toast with fruit.  Breakfast is typically the meal where he eats the most, so he tends to get bigger servings at breakfast than other meals.

  • Eggs, waffles, pancakes, yogurt, fresh cut up fruit, toast, cereal and oatmeal.  That's pretty much what we do for breakfast foods.

  • We do oatmeal, waffles, pancakes, french toast, dry cereal, fruit (bananas, strawberries, etc.), yogurt, and smoothies for breakfast.  I've tried eggs several times but DS was not having it.  Although he will eat a very small part of an egg sandwich if I make that.

  • I follow a simple pattern - protein, carb and fruit - for breakfast.  Actually that, with veggies added in, is our pattern for all meals and most snacks.  He's not a huge meat eater, and eggs are "meh" to him, so he eats a lot of cheese or Greek yogurt.  For carbs, we usually go for pancakes, waffles, tortillas or toast.  For protein, I try eggs, cheese (crumbles, shredded or slices), cottage cheese or Greek yogurt.  He also really likes cheese toast - bread with 1/4c of shredded cheese on top and then toast it all together in the oven (you don't need to toast the bread first; it'll toast in the oven).  As for fruit, we go with fresh, if we have it, or a squeeze pouch.  A usual breakfast amount for him is 1/4c of cheese/yogurt, 2 waffles, 2/3 of a banana and 4-5 oz of whole milk.

  • We do all kinds of fruit in addition to:

    Waffles (and waffle sticks)
Pancakes (can vary by making banana or blueberry, even chocolate chip once in awhile)
Eggs (serve lots of different ways
Oatmeal (that's a good one to fill them up)
Toast with butter or cream cheese (or other spreads if your DS likes them)
    Yogurt
    Cheese sticks
    French toast
    Muffins
    English muffins
    Mini bagels

A lot of people make fruit/veggies smoothies, too.  I tried it once with DS and will try it again soon. I'm not a great smoothie maker.

  • He gets an egg with cheese, yogurt, or turkey sausage with toast, cereal, pancakes, or waffles, and a fruit and/or veggie every morning with a glass of milk. That holds him over for about 2 hours until we have a snack.

  • This is great! This was something I was stuck in the mud with too! Our son just turned 13months and all we have really given him for breakfast are eggs, cereal, oatmeal, or pancakes. My son hates eggs and oatmeal most of the times too but I make him eat it LOL makes me feel terrible but I had no clue what else to feed him. We have done a blueberry muffin once and he enjoyed that. I will def try some of the suggestions here, lots of ideas I never thought of or was too scared yo do since I thought he was too little or didn't have enough teeth for them. thanks!!!
