We had a diaper genie elite with our first son and will use one again. Well worth the cost of 35 to buy it and the refills really aren't that expensive. I think they are 6 and I needed them maybe every other week.
We love our diaper genie too! It's a lifesaver. My DS is still in diapers, so we'll keep it in the bathroom to use for both kids.
We have a diaper Genie and we use it all the time, but our bedrooms are upstairs so we change a lot of diapers when it's not convenient to take them straight outside. I would definitely recommend getting one. IMO and from using the diaper Genie for my first two, you don't smell the poopy diapers in the diaper Genie.
We just throw them in ziplock bags. I throw them in the garage and hubby takes them out to the garbage can each night since the can is outside and it's so hot right now. I've heard from friends they hated the diaper pails and weren't worth the money so we never invested in one.
