Fell down the stairs today

Obviously, I need someone to do my grocery shopping for me, because I am unable to do basic function such as walking down the stairs.

I headed out with my youngest this morning and while taking the last two stairs, I "popped" my ankle.  I had him run into the house to get his dad (he works 3rd shift, so he was sleeping) and told him to let him know I've hurt my ankle.  My 4 year old assured me it would be alright because "girls don't have ankles".  I also need someone to teach my son basic body parts.

Few hours later, turns out I've pulled my ligaments which also pulled off a piece of the bone.  Awesome.  Appointment with an orthopedic specialist to follow on Tuesday.

Best Part: I have Aflac, so that means this may pay out enough for that Britax stroller/car seat I've been looking at.  Maybe even nursery furniture if it turns out I need surgery.

Worst Part:  I found out we have at least one "gifted" nurse in our ER who doesn't know the difference between the sounds of a placenta and a babies heart.  I told her when she came in, his heart beat was difficult to find because of where my placenta is.  She put the doppler on my belly and said there it is!  I knew that sound and it wasn't the baby.  Luckily, my doctor is one building over, so I hobbled over there and the baby's heart was beating away!

Anyway, hope ya'll have an awesome holiday weekend!

This made me laugh out loud!  That stinks about your ankle though. I injured my knee (or re-injured an old ski injury I guess) while pregnant with last DS and had to just deal with it until after he was born. Which by that time, I had gotten used to the fact that if I step wrong it pops out and have basically ignored it for over 6 years now.

  • Oh no! Glad that baby is alright! I also have had several "gifted" nurses who have tried to use the placenta as baby B's heartbeat. Umm, no. Please go back to nursing school because I would like accurate measurements, especially since I'm in L&D for preterm contractions.

Your son's comment made me laugh so hard. I can absolutely picture that coming out of my stepson's mouth (he's also 4 years old).

Hope everything goes well at your orthopedic appointment, and maybe you will get that extra help for new baby stuff. :)

  • I'm certainly not laughing at your injury... Your son actually had my laughing out loud, I love the things that 4 year old kiddos say.    :)

Gotta love the brilliant nurse, WTG lady.    My nurse couldn't find the heartbeat the other day too, she said she was concerned and wanted to send me for a new u/s (after 3 miscarriages I was in a huge panick) DR came in and found DD2's heartbeat in 2 seconds.

    Feel better!!

  • In the nurse's defense, she's an ER nurse, not a L&D nurse, and probably doesn't have to listen to many fetal heartbeats. :P That's why most hospitals will send you straight to L&D to get checked out if you're pregnant first, and THEN send you back to the ER for treatment for other things.

Glad you (well, considering!) and baby are okay!
