bathtub question

Okay, this is probably a really stupid question, but I'm wondering what other people do...

We have the Fisher Price whale tub and love it. We set it inside the actual bathtub and just fill it halfway, and LO loves his bath! My question is that I use a lavender calming baby bubble bath every 3rd day-- what is the best way to rinse LO off after? Our water heat is very hit or miss so we use a thermometer in the kiddie bath to make sure LO doesn't get burnt...so just running the faucet and rinsing him off with a cup or shower handle is out! I've been putting a little extra water in the actual tub that is clean to use to rinse him off, but it seems like a big waste of water to get enough.

Do you just use a washcloth with water to wipe the soap off? Am I missing something really simple?
