Rant about the pedi

My son had an MRI yesterday. The pedi office knows we are anxious for the results because we harrassed them for days about getting the MRI scheduled. After the MRI, the nurse told me that the doctor should have the report Thursday morning. I called at lunch time. Two and half hours later I called again because the nurse didn't call me back. I was nice because the person that answers the phone is not the person that should be calling me. The nurse called me back an hour and fifteen minutes later (just a few minutes short of their 1.5 hour time limit). She only said the doctor isn't in today. So I asked if they received the report. She said she didn't see it in the system. I asked her to call to get it. She told me they will send the report when it is ready. That is a lie. ERG!

I work for an ENT doctor (not the doctor that ordered the MRI). He called yesterday afternoon and got the report. I know my son has a problem and I need a referral from the stupid pedi to see an neurologist. It's bad enough that they acted like I made the whole thing up. Apparently it's totall normal for my kid to fall over every three steps. I'm glad the nurse knows my kid better than we (DH and I) do. He only lives with us. He is my child and all.

Once we have the referral, I am ready to switch doctors.

Re: Rant about the pedi

  • How frustrating. As if you don't already have enough on your plate. I'm sorry to hear this and hope that your son is okay. Switch doctors as soon as you can.
  • That is awful! My Dad is a neuro radiologist and they read those things the same day.  Actually legally they have to read them in a certain amount of time, so when the  dr.'s offices that prescribe them don't call with results that is absolutely ridiculous and upsetting.  so sorry you are going through all of this.  I hope they take care of this quickly tomorrow.  There is no excuse.

I hope your little one is ok.  I have been thinking about you and him since you said he had to have the MRI.

  • The ENT I work for is great. He called about two hours after I got to work and asked for the information. He has seen my son for ear infections, but didn't order the test since the pedi did. He gave me the basics and recommended that we talk to a neurologist since they specialize in the brain. He said he would give me some names if the pedi didn't have any. Our insurance requires a referral to see a specialist, so I can't just take him in.

What really sucks is that I work for the company. You think they would want to take care of their own people a little bit better. There are hundreds of pediatricians in this city. I'll have no problem calling a few.

  • So sorry to hear about this, it has to be frustrating.  Hope your LO is doing okay with everything.

I'd tell the pedi's office exactly why you're leaving, too - after you get your paperwork, of course.

  • what really bugs me is that pedi's even order MRI's.

it's not their area of expertise.  You should have seen a neuro then headed for an MRI.  What if they wanted more views, or with and without contrast?  Now you only one MRI (because obv with sedation you wont' do it more than once) and it may not show them everything they would want to see.

If the MRI is normal would the pedi have told you not to see a neuro because he's fine?

To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew

yeah i was wondering this also.  Did it have to do with insurance?

  • I finally talked to the pedi! He said the same thing I already knew. DS has a malformation. He wants a neurologist to look over the images even though he doesn't think he will need surgery. Now I just have to wait to get into the neurologist.
