1st Trimester

Think I did this to myself...

So idk if I am just weird, but I have been "sucking it in" (my stomach) since like middle school- all the time. I haven't felt like I was chubby or anything since middle school, but I guess it became habit. Does anyone else do this? Anyways... I started to make myself not suck it in (since I won't be able to for much longer), and it is very uncomfortable. My bump is definitely showing a little and I think I didn't give my stomach time to stretch out or something.. idk but am I going crazy?

  • I don't know if I would call what I do "sucking in," but I have always had a habit of keeping my stomach muscles tight. Not really sucking my stomach in, just tightening my (non existant) abs and holding it like that.... all the time. And yep, it's something I have to give up when I'm pregnant because it isn't comfortable. Not keeping them tight just makes me feel bloated I guess. It's probably because your stomach muscles are so used to being held tight while you were sucking in, and now they're trying to get used to being relaxed.

  • I was a dancer, it's not something I ever gave up. That is until now. It feels so much better to relax my stomach. I still find I suck it in but it doesn't last very long. We haven't told our parents yet so if I'm around them I've been really aware of sucking in what I can. I also lean over counters a bit more so that it isn't just out there, but that's different :)

Thats prob a much better explanation of what I actually do. Makes sense though.

  • Yeah.  "Sucking it in" now hurts and is pointless.

  • You probably don't have a bump yet because your uterus is still behind your pubic bone, down by your hair line. What's probably causing your discomfort is gas and bloating. Pregnancy hormones slow down your digestion. Your stomach hasn't needed time to stretch yet because there's nothing there yet.
