Last week at my Dr. appt, she told me she would be out this week, and she would have another Dr. fill in for her, and that I would be getting the group b strep test. I scheduled the appt, and was told who my Dr. would be. No problem. I went in today for the appointment and there was a different nurse as well. She told me they were going to check me today, and then realized this Dr. wasn't my normal Dr, and asked if I wanted to opt out of being checked. I told her yes, I was opting out this week b/c i'm only 37 weeks and it doesn't make much of a difference right now. She said okay and left. When the Dr. came in, he did all the normal things (measuring, heartbeat, questions) and I told him I am supposed to have the GBS test done. He said "Oh, well you opted out of a pelvic exam." I told him I didn't feel the need to have a cervix check, and asked if that was different than a pelvic exam. He said it is different, and why don't I just get the GBS test done next week with my reg. Dr. I told him it was fine, but now im all confused about what the difference is between a pelvic exam and a cervix check and all that. Was he just a weird Dr? Thanks in advance for any input. Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Re: pelvic exam vs. cervix check?
Well a cervix check is when they check your dilation in pregnancy at least, a pelvic exam is where they check your reproductive parts ovaries and all by feeling around.
Did you ask him what the difference was thats what I would have done.
I am just as confused as you are....I have never heard of a cervix check referred to as a pelvic exam, but maybe that was exactly what that doctor was doing. Also, I had my GBS test done at 35 1/2 weeks, so it seems kind of late for them to push it back another week. What if you went into labor without knowing the results??
Good luck, and thank goodness your regular doc is back next week!
damn men! lol just kidding.
as far as GBS test I had mine at 37 weeks and a few days.
they would automatically administer antibiotics for precautionary reasons and watch you and baby for symptoms a little bit longer post birth
