Ok, the more I try to explain this the crazier I feel. My DH does not get it. Please tell me I'm not crazy because I'm not having much google luck.
I don't think Sophia can "drop" or get into position to engage. She is head down, but the way I'm carrying her feels weird. Totally diff from DD#1... see my lovely drawing below (LOL)

I feel like option A is how it should be, my belly makes a smooth curve to my pelvis.
Option B is how I am, theres a little "lip" there underneath. I can literally lift my belly, and put my hand inbetween my belly and my body. I can feel her head on the underside of my belly. This doesn't seem right??
Am I crazy and this is totally normal? Do any of your bumps look like this? I just feel like she is "stuck" won't be able to get her head in place, because it's almost like she has to go up before she can go down. I'm getting more freaked out already knowing that she has a huge head, so that just seems to make matters worse.
Re: Don't think the baby can get where she needs to go
I think with DD, I was in between your drawings:
DD did get stuck on my tailbone or my pubic bone -- I don't remember -- and it apparently took more pushing to get her out, but she was fine and so was I (no tearing even). She had a little bruise from the ordeal, though.
I would presume contractions and laying would allow her the opportunity to eventually engage in your pelvis.

This is my first baby and I look like figure B. My baby never moved up. The doctor even commented at my 20 week ultrasound that the baby was resting right on my cervix, and I also remember as early as three or four months feeling like I had a cantaloupe-sized ball in my crotch.
As far as I know, this isn't cause for concern.
If I remember correctly, babies tend to drop or "lighten" earlier for FTMs than for S+TMs. That said, my mom told me none of us really dropped or engaged til she was in labor (5kids!) so I think your LO won't have any trouble finding her way
Lurking, I hope this is ok. I was like this with my fourth! I knew she was hanging out over my pubic bone and not able to descend down like she was supposed to. I had read about wrapping, so that's what I did. A somewhat firm wrap (not too tight, you have to be able to breath and stuff) with a couple 6" wide Ace bandages, it helped lift her and push her back towards my spine some. I think I did it for like a week maybe during the day (not all day, Ace bandages are bunchy and uncomfortable). She was born at 39w3d, tied for my latest delivery.
eta: Do it at the base of your belly/hips area, no higher than your belly button. You just want to close that bit of space off that she shouldn't be in.
