Well, it's a really long story, but basically DH's boss totally screwed us over insurance-wise and no we aren't going to be covered through his work. I am on maternity leave for this whole year and have the option of purchasing COBRA through my employer, but it's 900/month for family coverage. There is no way that we can afford that for the whole year and going back to work earlier than planned is not an option. I am a teacher and so my long term sub was given a contract for the whole school year. So now I am really scared that we are not going to have enough money to keep purchasing the health insurace that we need. DH is going to start looking for a new job, but I would really like to try to find some cheaper insurance in the meantime. Can anyone help me out? I have no idea where to even start - just start calling around to different agencies to get quotes like you would for car insurance?

Re: Please help! Anyone have to purchase their own health insurance?
I had to do this when I was self employed after college. A good place to start for quotes was ehealthinsurance.com.
Good luck!
we are self employed and have our own health insurance. Ours is Blue Cross Blue Shield Individual (family coverage) and we love it.
