Baby Names

Samuel

So, Samuel ranks #26 in the nation, and it's consistently been top 50.

Curious, does it feel tired?  Is it classic/timeless?  Are you sick of hearing it?

Sibset (not that it matters, really) would be Hank, Otis and Samuel.  Like?

Thoughts/Opinions on the name?  We would be unlikely to NN him Sam or Sammy.

Re: Samuel

  • I am soured on this name. I went to school with an incredibly malicious boy named Samuel. He was a jerk. Unfortunately that's all I can associate it with now. :(

  • I like it.  I think it goes well with the other names.  I know it's always been top 50, but I've never met one IRL.

  • Classic and timeless. I do like this name a lot.

It seems out of place with the two other boys names you have. Maybe a little vanilla...

  • I love Samuel.  Classic biblical names are usually a win with me.  I know two Samuels, but the boy names among my friends tend to cluster (I know multiple Benjamins and Joshuas too), so the name's popularity is probably overrepresented among them.  DD's classmates are probably a better indicator of its popularity and I think at several schools she's only known one Samuel (went by Sam).

  • I think I only know 2, one is a 5 year old and the other is early 30's.
  • I love the name.  (It's DS's mn, so I'm a bit partial :) ).  I've only had 2 Samuels in 10 years of teaching music- so I see the entire school, not just 1 class a year.

    I agree- timeless and classic.

  • I absolutely love it. I wanted to name DS Samuel but DH wasn't on board

  • Timeless.  If we have another boy his name will be Samuel and we will call him Sam.  I could see some thinking it's a little boring, but I love the friendly vibe it has.

I know a few Sams under age 3 so in my area it's pretty popular.

  • It's very classic and a nice name, but I'd never use it because I strongly dislike Sam.

  • Classic. Love Sam.

For some reason, I feel like popular, classic boy names don't get as stale as their girl counterparts.

  • It would be very high on my list, but I have a cousin with the same name and it would be weird.

  • Samuel is one of the few classic names that I am not tired of. It may be consistently in the top 50 but I have hardly ever met any Samuels. I like it! :)
  • Timeless and perfect. Samuel will never die.

    Great choice :)
