Sorry its not a clicky link :P

Anyway.... I was actually THERE yesterday when this all went down. It was really crazy. I was arriving for my u/s and there was mass chaos in the lobby of the hospital. Everyone looked very concerned and afraid. I had no idea what even happened until a few hours later. We were locked in and I couldn't leave the hospital and was search at least 5 times. They even searched my car!

This hospital is EXTREMELY safe... this was an extreme circumstance. But you can never be careful! I am glad they returned the baby to family. I can't get over how crazy this was!

  • I used to work at a hospital we practiced Code Pinks ALL the time so that we would have the best chance at preventing something like this. Luckily the only "real" instances we had were parents carrying the baby too close to sensors down the hallway!

  • i heard a lot of crazy people nowadays who either dressed up like a hospital nurse and stole baby or went into someone's garage while the garage door was opened and beat and kicked a pregnant woman who's cleaning up the garage or someone pretended to be a day care aid of a community college and stole a student's baby.  luckily, the babies were found and the injured pregnant woman was doing fine after checked by her ob.  anyway, i stay more at home these days and only go out when dh's with me.  i might overreact but there're just too many incidences happened recently and i cannot control others'action but to protect my LO.

  • This is why you should always make sure the person doing something with your child has a visible hospital Id, if you don't see it ask for it it is your right and a hospital requirement to wear your badge. Also the majority of baby professionals ID badges are different from the rest of the hospital I.e. another color so you know. At least it is that way in my hospital I work at.

This! I remember when I had DS there were pictures posted all over postpartum about what a postpartum nurses badge should look like!

  • When it comes to my children I have always been extremely cautious especially at the hospital when they are born. The moment they wheel the baby away, my DH follows until they bring baby back to me...I never return baby to the nursery, the baby remains with me until d/c and if the baby needs to be taken away for any testing, my DH follows. I've heard and read of too many horrific incidents and don't take chances.

  • " She wrote that her baby was "& lbs 22 ounces 19 inches," likely meaning to type 7 pounds. "

Haha, I thought, "How is she going to get him a social security number or send him to school or anything?!?!" But baby-thieves are obviously not the smartest people in the world.

  • Really?? I can't even imagine someone doing that - nine months planning and actually pulling it off? That's insane, I'm so glad they found the baby and it was reunited with its real family. So scary.

  • My SIL is in labor right now and earlier today we were visiting her at the same hospital I'll have my baby at in 4 months. They've recently revamped the security because of baby stealing, but I'm not convinced it's good enough. One time I visited a friend at the same hospital's psych ward, and the security was INCREDIBLE. I don't understand why the maternity ward has anything less than psych ward security.
