Cloth Diapering

Getting yeast out of diapers?

DS's pedi told us the rash he had developed was yeast, and I did some research on getting it out of the diapers. I tried this routine: https://allaboutclothdiapers.com/killing-the-dreaded-yeast-monster/

However it didn't seem to work. I used the Nyastatin cream he was prescribed, bought tea tree oil, the bio kleen bleach, and dried the diapers on high heat as we have no sun here right now, and repeated it a week later, with no luck. DS wore disposables the whole time and his rash cleared up completely, but when he went back to cloth it started to come back. Please tell me there's something else I can try.

  • I've never found that oxy bleach will kill the yeast when DD has a yeast rash. I find that TTO and/or GFSE along with 1/3-1/2 cup of chlorine bleach along with sunning or high heat is the only thing that will kill the yeast for us.

  • I rinsed in cold with tea tree oil, rinsed in hot with regular chlorine bleach (1/2 cup), washed on hot with detergent and Grapefruit Seed Extract, and did an extra rinse and sunned them. I followed up by using GSE in my prerinse for several washes after that. The yeast has not returned (knock on wood). I washed all my covers/shells together and then all my inserts together. The inserts I dried on high heat.
  • We just got over a yeast rash as well. I washed our diapers in apple cider vinegar and hot water and dried on high heat. I just did it last night but no rash yet so we will see in a day or two if it worked.
