January 2013 Moms

anatomy scan - scary results :(

At the ultrasound yesterday, they found abnormal findings. We were at dinner last night for my parent's wedding anniversary and soon after I announced it was a boy (yay!) (with a Cookie Monster cupcake and blue cookies), my OBGYN called with the news.

These included:
Partial Placeta Previa (I had this last time, the reason I had a C-Section) - I'm not surprised. I am on pelvic rest (no sex), no exercise, limited lifting, etc. It sucks but it can move as the baby gets bigger. I can't have a vaginal birth but I was leaning towards a repeat C-Section so I'm okay with it.

Choroid Plexus Cyst (I had THIS last time as well) -  basically they are NOT harmful most of the time. They tend to disappear by the 3rd trimester (Layla's disappeared one week after the initial ultrasound). They CAN be scary if paired with other abnormalities (stunted growth, another organ having issues) but so far, it seems the baby is doing okay. We had a sequential screening done and everything came back normal.

Enlarged Ventricles  - THIS was the part that scared me. In the brain there are ventricles and Benny's are enlarged/wide. The doctor sounded worried and said that I need to go for further testing. I broke down. I didn't understand what was happening or why. After discussing with my family, I calmed down. Kind of. We all did a lot of research and it seems to be BETTER then we had originally thought which is good news. My sister just texted me this - "Statistics are definitely on our side. From what I can tell there will be a lot of ultrasounds to come. Maybe even weekly. They will be looking for a decrease in ventricle size (most likely scenario), the same size (good scenarios, less likely) and increase in size (worst scenario but least likely)." SO.. that's that. I have a Level 2 ultrasound which I will schedule hopefully for today or early next week - these are MUCH more detailed and the techs are better at reading it. Basically, ultrasounds are like an art.. the measurements are so tiny that one tech can read one things and another tech can get a completely different reading.

SO that's that. thoughts and prayers, please... I am so excited for Mr. Benajmin Sawyer and I want him happy and healthy.

Thanks ladies!!

Sending you T&P's. We had a similar experience, i too have partial P.P. and our baby has an EIF in his/her heart. So we too are  trying to stay positive that it will all turn out ok, but i know how it feels to just worry at even the thought of the possibility that something may be wrong w/your sweet baby! thinking of you and sending you good vibes (AND CONGRATS ON TEAM BLUE!!! AHHH how exciting!!)

  • I'm so sorry about the findings from your a/s. I know how hard it is to hear that everything isn't 100% perfect. Our Baby Girl has a little extra fluid in her kidneys. We of course freaked out at first but have since learned she will likely be perfectly fine and it will disappear on it's own. I know it's easier said than done, but just try to take one day at a time. I hope it all works out for both you and your sweet baby boy!

I'm definitely sending T&Ps to your LO. Be sure to keep us posted!
