It was my understanding that after being washed a handful of times the chemicals in/on cotton fabrics won't be dangerous to be breathe in - does that sound right?
I would go with second hand items. I'm sure you'll still get a lot of new non-organic things when the baby is born though.

Year 4 - still unexplained & 3 failed IUIs with
Follistim & Ovidral
