DD's daycare teacher said that she is very active and she feels sorry for us at home, as well as writing on her daily note that "We ALL sat down and listened to a story." It is her first week and she is 21 months old.
After seeing her at My Gym tonight, I understand :-( She wants to do her own thing- not interested in circle time. Screaming and making a fit when she had to stay in my lap and participate. I was worn out!
She is given independence at home to play and do whatever she basically wants as long as its safe and not bothering anyone else.
Am I too soft? How to I "tame" my child?
Re: My kid is wild :-( Help!
We have a two year old play group. Nobody ever sits in a g-d circle for "story time". We tried and peed laughing bc it was such a failure. Have you ever been to library story time? How many of the actually sit? Not many, at least not around here.
And Im a little offended at her "i feel sorry for you". They are bundles of energy. It's rare I've met a calm 2 year old. Even kids who were previously calm, are all nutsos now. My friend who I was so jealous of bc her kid would sleep and be calm and sit and do one thing for an hour is JUST as crazy as my son.
I think your DC teacher needs a punch to the face.
I mean you could try to have your child sit and listen to a story for, say a minute and then let her run around. And after a few days, increase the time by 30 seconds or another minute. But it's not like her behavior is abnormal. AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN A WEEK.
I still vote for face punching.

If you would like to begin to encourage your daughter to focus in certain situations, then you do need to practice a bit at home. I would start with just reading to her more. Have her actually sit in your lap while you read. Then, move on to a couple times a day where she sits in your lap and plays with a toy. Eventually maybe work on her just sitting calmly in your lap for 5 minutes or so a couple times a day. But don't worry about circle time right now... It's totally normal for her to not sit for something like that.
I think OP is only worried bc her buttmunch DC teacher is acting like this is not normal, which it is.
Which is why I advocate face punching the teacher.
