Where Kids Don't Belong

Where all do you think kids are just not okay to be present at?

I touched on this on another post I responded to, but today I was attending a memorial for some fellow soldiers in my unit who died recently and there were more than a few children there. I just really disagree with this unless they are directly related to the fallen. Some of these little kids started making noise, fussing, wanting to run around, etc etc. Funerals in general are so somber, but military ones are just awful so I just thought it was disrespectful to the family.

Also, my absolute number one pet peeve is when kids run around like animals in the stores. They scream bloody murder, throw things, and harass other people and the parents just let them do it. Granted, that's a parenting problem more than a kid problem but nonetheless.

Any horror stories of your own? I remember  one of the ladies here posting about babies at school. Not cool!

Working at Tar.get, I understand it's baby-central.  And I've become a professional at blocking out the screams most of the time.

But I agree with you that school or a funeral that is not for a family member is no place for kids.  I think mine should be fairly obvious - but bars and casinos.  I can tell you in my trips to Reno and Vegas, while there are not a lot there are still a few babies in strollers sitting by while mom or dad play the slots...Are you kidding me?!  I love to gamble as much as the next person - but even before TTC I thought this is insane.  If you want a vacation with your child fine.  But a place filled with booze, smoke and all that noise and you bring your CHILD?  Cray-Cray!

Also high end restaurants and late movies.  I'm all for teaching your kid manners at a restaurant, but if we're there at 9pm and paying thru the nose, then I don't want to hear your kid melting down.  Bring them at 5 and get them out of there before bedtime.

Of that reminds me of when we were spending this past spring break in New Orleans! I have family there so I am very used to Bourbon St, but Good Lord - there were kids as young as 9 there. That is NO place for kids. If you've never been there at night, they seriously have sex-type acts, naked people, strippers on swings in the windows and nudity and booze everywhere. I mean, it's not 100% like that but there's a lot of it and you can not miss it. There was even the classic matching T-shirts family of five there, and all three kids were younger than 16. There's just no excuse for that.

For me it's on commuter trains during rush hour. I commute 2 hours each way, and during the rush it's dangerous! People shove to the gates and onto the trains. Parents let their kids run up and down the aisles or let the kids sit together alone while they talk to each other. It always get so nervous for them. They also try to push out of the train first with their strollers, rather than waiting for the crowd to thin out.

I second the fine dining restaurant. I am a server at one and we dont have a high chair, a kids menu etc.... that being said, we will accomidate for a child as much as possible, but(IMO) if you have the $$$ to shell out a $100+ dinner for two, why cant you shell out some money for a babysitter!

~ Screaming children anywhere with ignoring parents or screaming parents

~ Children in bars.  This one really bugs me.  We were at a whatever restaurant (you get what you pay for) this week.  A family of four (with two young kids ages 5 and 7ish) taking up one side of the bar -- sitting at the bar.  The mother was giving people dirty looks the whole time.  There were available tables.  Sidenote:  I don't mind behaving children in upscale restaurants.  One of my cousins does this regularly with their daughter and I am always impressed by how well behaved she is at dinners and well educated she is with menus and preferences.

~ Children running wild in public bathrooms.  Mother was in a stall while her two sons (2, 4ish) were running around the public bathroom.  Younger one didn't have on any pants and both were just wild.  I didn't even get through the door.  On so many levels, I did not want to be anywhere near any of this,  BTW it was a swinging door so these kids could run out at any point without their mother.

I agree. Funerals and memorial services should only have kids under 8 or 10 if they are close family members.

I can't stand when kids are in fancy restaurants and any movie that is pg-13 or R. With movies, I want to enjoy it without a kid crying or talking. But I am more bothered just by the lack of common sense that people have when they take their kids to these movies (not just the crying, bratty ones). Some people seem to think their kids are just going to stare at the movie/tv screen and not take any of that in. As a teacher of 4 and 5 year olds, I can tell you that kids absorb and repeat just about everything from a pg-13 and R movie. They are rated that for a reason.

Last year I had a student who always talked about violent, negative things (I even heard him tell HIS OWN MOM that he was going to "Bust her head" when he didn't want to listen to her at pickup/dropoff time). His mom always said she had no idea how he picked up that language. She was a very nice, calm person and claimed she didn't understand where all that nasty talk came from. But then he would tell me all the movies and songs he got to see/listen to, and I would just roll my eyes. ugh

    The RE office.

    Yup.

There are a few women at my RE's office who have very small childre (babies and toddlers) and they refuse to sit in the childrens waiting area and think its cool to sit with the rest of us.

I spent 1 day after one of my losses listening to a toddler pulling on her mothers leg going "mama, mama, mama, mama, mama".

I go to an office that is its own building and strictly for IF purposes.  Not a gyno/ob office where you may see pregnant women or women bringing their babies for appts.
