Working Moms

pumping in the bathroom

Next week I am traveling to London for work for the week. I still EBF so I am going to have to pump 2-3 times a day while in the office.

I am completely spoiled at my NY office with lovely Mothers rooms complete with separate fridges for our BM, places to keep our pumps, etc. While in London I am SOL. Its an open floor plan, so there are no offices I can use, and all the conference rooms have glass walls sooooo I am going to have to pump in the bathroom.

I realize it is not the end of the world, but definitely a rude awakening from what I am used to. I tip my hat to you ladies who still pump despite having to pump in bathrooms, storage closests, etc. You are way more badass than me!

Re: pumping in the bathroom

  • I feel your pain - I've had to pump in a bathroom more times that I cared to.  I've even done Amtrak train bathrooms, which are horrible.  I recommend a good manual pump if you don't have one already!

  • Storage closet here...but, it's pretty much just an office we put file cabinets in, so it wasn't so terrible. I had plenty of space, and it was clean.

  • I am sure you thought of this since you probably need to bring your laptop anyways but just in case, don't forget a plug adaptor for your pump. They still need those, right?

  • well... when in Rome? just pump at your desk :)
  • When I was pumping, I actually had to use the handicap shower stall in the locker room in our gym...because of our open floor plan, glass walls on offices and conference rooms, etc.  Even better, people knew what I was doing, so they'd try to have conversations with me through the shower curtain.
